I have a question regarding those little adhesive discs that come with a GPS device. You stick the little disc on to your dash and it gives you a place to attach your mounting device with the suction cup on it. What I'm wondering is if I use this adhesive disc will it leave residue from the glue on my dash when I remove it? I want to use it but I'm afraid it will ruin my dash. Does anyone here have experience with these things?
Ever since I bought my S2000, there has been a mysterious circle on the dashboard, near the center, that is colored slightly differently from the rest of the dash. Only thing I can think of is that some similar device was installed there by the previous owner.
Those adhesive discs if left there long enough will leave junk behind on the dash and possibly rip the dash if kept on for an extended amount of time sitting in the sun. Personally I don't even use mine. I stick mine to the window with a suction cup. There are several other mounts out there that that do not require any type of adhesive you just need to look around.
Yeah I had a feeling something like that would happen. I'll just keep sticking it on the windshield I guess. I thought about using that bean bag looking thing but I'm not too crazy about how it would look. Too big and cumbersome I think. Thanks guys.
its not that bad. my father uses one and its hold is awesome and its not too huge either. it also is so easy to just pull off the dash and throw in the glove box. no residue on the glass or dash board.
Uh... Are you guys talking about adhesive disc on the dash or on the windshield? I have a GPS, it only leaves a little bit of residue on the windshield, which pisses me off because I take it off and put it on another spot and it leaves a print there as well. Eventually like 5 - 10 circles just magically appear on my windshield.
I don't get how your dad use on both the dash and windshield. The disc itself is a double stick tape mount. Stick it and leave it, one time type of deal. I think you're a little confused about what we're talking about. A normal dash isn't flat enough and it's too porous for the suction cup to work on. That's the the adhesive disc is for. There's 2 things. What we're talking about is the actual adhesive disc that has double stick tape on it. You stick that to the dash which then gives you a surface for the suction cup mount to stick to. There's no adhesive disc to stick to the windshield. It's just a suction cup mount.
If you dont want to mount on the glass or use the plastic disk then look into those beanbag like mounts that go on the dash. They work pretty well as long as you are not taking fast, hard turns it wont slide around. You could also get a Kuda Mount that mounts to somewhere in your car and will look OEM. kudausa - KUDA car custom color leather mounts for mobile electronics This is how the one I have looks: It looks stock, and when I dont have my GPS in it I put my phone in it. There are many mounds you can attach to the surface like a generic one, or one made for your GPS system so I can charge as well when it is in the cradle.
No problem, they are a good company to work with. When I got mine I didnt know which color would work best as they had two that looked close and wanted the best match. They send both to me for the price of one and said for me to return the one that didnt match via there return shipping label.
the one in the picture is like what he has. he only puts it on the dash as a mat like that grips even slanted dashboards. i didn't say he puts it on both the glass and dash, i said it doesn't leave a mark on either.
update to an older posting but it may help someone. the mat i was talking about is now on clearance. much better alternative than sticking the nav on the glass. Bracketron Nav-Mat Portable GPS Dash Mount - UFM-100-BL - Buy.com
This is a great product. Doesn't slide around at all. Wherever you locate it on the dash, it stays. Unless of course you are taking turns at high speeds. In that case you don't need a GPS.
I use the same one. I have yet to make it move, although I don't do hard turns since my car has too much roll for my comfort. It's a little bulkier than I thought but still reasonable. The Garmin mount is ridiculously huge.
Before downloading the TomTom app, I used a Garmin with the suction cup in the windshield. The only downside was that in extreme heat the entire unit would fall off the windshield!!
