I am purchasing some wheels for my car and would like some opinions or recommendations on a set of protective sockets to prevent scratches or chipping the paint on the wheels

wrap your current ones with electrical tape, save money for other things.

My local Napa Auto parts store had a set like the Griots but included more sockets and came with a 1/2" torque wrench for the same price as the Griots.

+1 I use 3M blue painters tape, it works great.

Or spray with Plasti-Dip...I use it often for lots of different stuff, I use it for my daily tools on the construction site, as well as small detail stuff like my shop-vac blow-dry tips so I can get super close to the paint and never worry. it is sold in a dip [may be better for this application] and spray paint, as well as in different colors.

I just got this from amazon for $20 for my new wheels. Like the extended as I have lug bolts and helps and thread them in while hanging the wheel. Also of you have wheel bolts a wheel hanger is a must!

Oh yeah I did Opti-Coat it as well as the lug bolt heads :p

LOL, from the description, it is Cr-Mo, thin wall AND impact?! Impressive! I have NEVER seen something with ALL those attributes together before, haha...

    Thin-wall Cr-Mo socket, I wouldn't dare even put a cheater-bar to it!

Does look VERY nice and handy for starting threading and hand snugging, maybe it could take just one good hit with a breaker bar to tighten to spec...

Yeah I would not use a impact on them then again should not really use or need a impact gun to remove and install wheels. Has held up pretty well so far.
