My dad just got a new pressure washer for around the house. It is a Husky and has 2000 psi, but also has a high and medium setting. Is this safe to use on cars? or is it too strong and can damage the paint?

It's just fine, stay 3 feet away from the car and never try to get too close to the paint in order to blast a stubborn stain /dried bird poop, and you will be alright.
    Happy power washing.

You don't have to stay 3 feet away, I've got much loser than 3 feet away with a 2600psi gas PW with no issues.

It's not necessarily the psi that makes the difference. GPM plays a big role too. Higher gpm can make a lower psi pressure washer feel a lot stronger, and vise versa.
