looks good but the fact that it needs batteries is going to be their down fall. I like my brinkmann now that just needs to be charged up =)
I don't see this as being much of a drawback. LEDs don't require much power so battery life should be pretty long.
if you do go rechargeable batteries, stay away from Engergizer's set of rechargeable batteries. they dont' hold a charger for a long period of time. So if you don't use them often, they'll die during storage. you'll end up having to charge them every time you want to use them.
The old Brinkmann lost its battery life pretty quickly, or at least mine did. And I was not in the mood to buy a brand new battery pack from them. So in essence, this is a much better solution.
Rechargeable batteries lose their ability to hold charge over time naturally. It's better to have replacement rechargeable batteries than one that's integrated into a product.
For rechargeables try Sanyo Eneloops or similar low self discharge rate NiMh batteries. Compared to traditional rechargeable this type of battery has a very long shelf life. Also NiMh batteries can sustain high loads for much longer than Alkaline batteries wich is good for high output flashlight applications. This is less of a issue nowadays with LED but the NiMh rechargeable will still last longer and stronger than alkaline in a everyday usage scenario. Standardized and user replaceable batteries are a definite plus.
yes get sanyo eneloops or the duracell rebranded sanyo eneloops which is sometimes cheap on sale. they have the white top. damn just bought the other brinkmann from DD last month. oke:
I'm in as I lost the charger for brinkmann. Looking forward to not having to have the hot halogens over my shoulder.
Personally I would just get lithium-ion or lithium-ion polymer batteries with protected circuit boards to prevent from over charging. Lithium-ion is better technology than Nickel Metal Hydride.
we just got our first shipment in, here are the pictures that many have been requesting. To my surprised it comes with 6 AA Batteries. Take a look In action Didn't have a bay but these were some shots of the light in daylight On the garage door
