Not a recent detail this one, but I have posted up for information for a member, I hope it comes in useful A detail for Bryan and me today, down to near Dunfermline for a very nice little Porsche Boxster. Alas, having arrived in Dunfermline after an hours drive we realised we had no transformer for the PC, and no camera!! So - Bryan's son Stu (expect to see a little more of Stu on the detailing front in the months to come...) very kindly drove down with these bits and bobs for us while we cracked on with other things - excuse the first two pics, they are camera phone efforts. The car on arrival didn't look too bad - a little general dirt and grime and loight to medium swirls across the board... The wheels and arches were cleaned with Meguiars APC, wheels then cleaned again with Tar and Glue remover to remove some more severe tar deposits, then cleaned with CG Premium Blue then waxed (end of detail) with Smartwax Rim Wax. Arches dressed with Meguiars All Seasons Dressing. Next up the car was washed using Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo & Conditioner (a shampoo often forgotten about, but a quality product that is very effective), rinsed and then clayed with Sonus Green Clay with Megs Last Touch as a lube. The car was then rolled inside for a swirl inspection - for the first time, we used a 3M Sun Gun for inspecting the paintwork and I was blown away by its effectiveness - the lightest marks are fully visible with it (ones not easy to spot with the Brinkmann), and it shows the paint condition up a real treat. Awsome light source and well worth the money for sure... Haven't quite worked out yet how to take good pictures with it, but here's a representation of the general swirls across the car... Correction was carried out using both the PC and the Rotary, and the polishes Menzerna S34A Power Gloss (deeper scratches), Menzerna PO85RD3.02 Intensive Polish (general swirl removal), Menzerna PO106FF Final Finishing (Finishing), and when Menz started to misbehave a little on a panel that had got hot in the sun and wouldn't cool off right owing to being in a sun trap - Meguiars #83. One of the front wings was showing signs of very thing paint - low 80s, and so this was tackled only with PC and Final Finish so as not to rsik any long term paint damage. The PC was also used for finishing on some panels when the heat of the day got to the point where we felt the rotary would not perform safely at its best as the panels were warm before even starting with the machine and were heating up very quickly - despite being in the shade, it was still a sun trap and we had a high ambient temperature and the Menz didn't like being sprayed with QD to cool (upset the lubricants in the polish). So the final panels were finsihed with the PC as this achieved an excellent finish without risking the paint with too high working temperatures which may have affected the quality of the final finish... note to selves, close garage door to keep heat out next time. Anyways, here the afters from the polishing stage - 3M Sun Gun used for some pics, the real sun used for the others.... The plastic trim was looking a little weathered... So this was cheered up using Meguiars All Seasons Dressing applied with a foam applicator... Now for the LSP for the paint - on this car we chose to go with Zymol HD Cleanse followed by Zymol Glasur and this delivered a beautiful deep wettness to the paint, complimenting the work of the polishing stages nicely. Some reflection pics inside the garage... To round a great day of detailing off, the sun was shining in all its glory and nicely low in the sky as well at finishing time (7pm), ideal for evaluating your finish and checking for holograms just one last time... (I'm fussy - anything that looks slightly like a hologram is inspected very closely, and then generally found to be product residue eh Bryan.... :lol: ) And finally, the completed shots after a wipe down with Meguiars Last Touch, glass treated to HD Cleanse, tyres to Meguiars Endurace... And finally, just for fun, perhaps a little caption competition for this pic... Bryan with the leaf blower and a cigar.... Thank you very much DaveKG!!! Exactly what I needed. Hopefully I'll be able to get a closer look at the paint tomorrow with my Brinkman and/or Halogens. I don't think the swirls on the Boxster I will be detailing are as pronounced as those shown in the 2nd pic, but that remains to be seen. I may end up having to purchase SIP or asking DJ_JonnyV & Black Diamond for some "loaner" ounces. Thanks again, much appreciated! PS Awesome work!
