I decided I could not wait for my 3M backing plate and red/black 75mm backing plate to come from Polished Bliss so I decided to have a go with my Makita backing plate (6.5in exactly!) on a Jag bootlid I got from my friendly body shop in my city. It was the perfect template to have a go since it had some pretty deep and interesting stuff in it.

Here are the results so far. What do you think? This was roughly 1.5 hours of learning/polishing because I decided to do the finishing polish at 600rpm and had Menz FPII and black last for over 10 minutes :giggle:

    Process:
    -Wash with ONR
-Clay with Riccardo + Last Touch as lube
-Tape up into 3 sections (for now)
-6.5in White LC pad with Menzerna FPII @ 600-1000rpm (wanted to see what it could do and also learn to control it)
-6.5in Orange LC pad with Menzerna SIP @ 1200-1300rpm
-6.5in White LC pad with Menzerna FPII @ 1000-1100rpm
-6.5in Black LC pad with Menzerna FPII @ 600rpm (I tried jeweling lol :headbang:)
-Wipe down with TAW then 50/50 alcohol and water (wanted to make sure)

Each step had a range of 1-2 hits with very little drama after I got used to it on the first hit. White was sooo much easier to control than Orange. Orange is quite controlling to say the least :crasy:

Riccardo + HOT water (I find it works much better this way)

Riccardo after 3 swipes :gross: (did I mention I got this from the Body Shop?)

Finish was great to play with after claying :applause2:

Those lines are either holograms or they were caused by the flash. Don't know yet as the trunk is dirty again from the rain last night. If they were holograms, I probably goofed on the jeweling somehow :p

Let me know what you think and some tips/warnings that I need to be aware about. I can practice as much as I want on this. If it runs out of clear, I go back to that body shop and ask them for a new one :headbang:

Looking good, Isaac. You seem to be taking to the Makita!

Make sure you've got all the polish residue off that panel before making a decision. That looks like it *might* be leftover polish haze. Try wiping that area down with a clean MF and some 50/50 IPA/Water, look at it in the same lighting, and see if it's gone.

If it's hologramming, time to go after it again. 106 should get rid of them pretty easily. I had a freak occurrence of hologramming on a Dodge Ram I did recently, with Duragloss 501 of all things. Near as I can tell, it was caused by extreme cold weather, and was just a freak thing. The next day, when it was warmer, one quick pass with 106 and a finishing pad, and it was all gone.

Thanks Denzil! It was definitely a lot of fun. I can definitely get used to this machine :applause2:
I think you should come back so you really want to get a Makita :p

Quick! Everyone PM Brian about how much fun the Makita is :giggle:
Iono about that, it would be a great addition for my details since a lot of owners really want to pick up detailing themselves. It'll be a fun teaching class thats for sure
Haha, I sort of feel that way but I do miss my PC. Its still in the sick bay getting repaired. I loved my PC for its capabilities and speedbumps I had to get over. First impressions of the Makita that I got was that its too easy lol
    Thanks Buddy :thumb:
Thanks man. I'm loving the power this thing has :headbang:

Hmm, I'll get another shot of TAW and 50/50 on there next time I do it. I just wish I could do it during the week instead of waiting for the weekend thats all. I'll also try it with 106FF/FA as well since I got both as samples. So far the list is IP, 106FF, 106FA, Prima Swirl, Prima Finish, and #83 since those are currently the polishes I have used in my collection. I also have the full 3M lineup but I think I'll wait for my PC to try those out before using them on the rotary :)

I know it is too tempting as it is, I keep spending all my "mod" money on detailing stuff instead of my car.

I can't wait for my 3M backing plate and 75mm red/black backing plate to come in. I seriously think I'm going to just stare at the adapter I'm getting from you and imagine what I can do with it lol :crasy:

*practice practice practice* :buffing: :buffer: :buffer: :headbang:
Thanks dsms, I was very surprised too at what I did. Rotary wasn't too bad after all
:giggle: Thats what everyone says :p
