Polishing this Major scratch (pic included)

Hi,

A friend of mine just bought the car and upon receiving the car he found this huggee scratch. He asked me about it and from the looks of it I think its beyond repair but im no expert so I am wondering what you guys would do to repair it.

I THINK the bumper where the scratch is located is plastic and not metal. Just another thing to keep in mind.

So this is a good learning curve for me, what steps would one take to remedy this scratch?

You can clean it up some,but it's beyond full correction.
Try M105 by hand.

 

You can get most of the white you see in the pic out but you are not going to be able to take out the black as that is the bumper.

One thing you could do is get touch-up paint fill the ares were the paint is down to the plastic, let it dry and then wet sand the area. Once this is done it will look better.

 

its fucked. so your friend bought the car and didnt notice that massive gash? and yes the bumper cover is plastic. it most likely needs to be taken to a body shop, have them fill it in, and respray it. chances are with damage like that, that the shape of the bumper is deformed from the impact. and look closely at the areas around the impact for things that look like VERY fine cracks. chances are the clear coat/paint might be cracked too in that area.

 

No he didn't buy the car like that. He bought it from an auction where there was no scratch and when he went to pick it up from the tow truck garage where they kept the vehicle for 3 days before it was picked up he noticed that gash. He asked about it and nobody was willing to take responsibility for it so he is now stuck in this position.

 

Man that sucks but it can be fixed.
