Hello fellow detailers, I have some rims with a "polished" silver lip, minus the "polished" part as they have suffered much neglect. I am wondering, how would I restore them to as new condition? I have some poorboys Pro Polish laying around, would that do the job? I also have some Autoglym Super Resin Polish left over too. Or should I go with a specific metal polishing agent? And while I have you here, can I give my wheels an initial clean with a cheap can of degreaser, or is there a reason I shouldn't do this? Followed by a scrub with some detergent, followed by claying. Cheers.
I'm thinking your gonna need some Metal Polish. I use Extreme Metal Polish on the lips. As far as the PB's :shead: I guess you could top it with that. I would be carefull using Can of Degreaser :yikes: Save that stuff for a filthy Engine:giggle: Claying is a good idea :thumb: As long as there not pitted to bad they should look fine. But regardless they'll look better
If your lip is polished aluminum then you should use an appropriate polish. Depending on how bad they are, you could use Autosol if they are nasty as its quite aggressive and then follow up with a finishing polish like Blackfire. If they are in decent shape, try the Duragloss metal polish ( black tin ).
I wouldn't use the SRP or any regular paint polish for that matter. Stick to a dedicated metal/aluminium polish rather....Oh and use gloves unless you want filthy black hands
It says "machine lip", not exactly sure what that means These are the wheels: Though, the spokes (or whatever you call them) are much darker in real life, creating a bit of contrast between them and the lip.
Polished Aluminium Lips - they can be either a clear coated, anodized, or bare polished aluminium in which case different types of polishes are needed for each. Bare (uncoated) aluminium, using a metal polish will turn the cloth black. Use Mothers Mag and Aluminium Polish and Mother’s Powerball and then wash with P21S Polishing Soap Note - Bare aluminium will oxidise (turn a yellowish colour) if a highly acidic or alkaline product is used.
Ok, how's this: Wash/scrub Clay Autosol Meguiar's NXT Metal Polish God this is going to take me forever. Also, should I use the poorboy Pro Polish on the inner part of the rims. I know they look like metal in the pic, but they appear to be painted when you see them in real life, that must be how they get the "hyper black" they claim to be.
apply wax to the wheels. it will help them repel brake dust better. it doesnt last forever, so when it seem slike it not doing as well, time to clean and apply fresh wax. it will make subsequent cleanings easier for you.
I've heard great things about JetSeal on wheels, and I happen to have some laying around, so I might give that a go. Would it be worth it to top that up with some Collinite 476?
