A buddy of mine finaly put his front mount intercooler on his STi but it sat in his garage for over 2 years and looks kinda dull. Is it possible to polish them back and if so what would be the best way of doing it/.

Could prob use some AL polish if it is not coated in any way, just be careful not to mess up t he fins when you are close to them. If it is bare Al, some polish will clean it up will.

cut a peice of cardboard the size of the fin area, tape it on and polish away.....

I have flitz and p21s polishing soap are either for AL?
So there would be no safe way to polish the front of the intercooler with fins?

both of those should be fine, i would start with p21s

No, there is not really a safe way to polish the fins as they are very thin and soft and can be bent easily. At least I do not know of any way to do so.

I have polished a couple intercoolers with my PC, some Mother Mag&Aluminum polish, and a MF bonnet and it worked well without disturbing the fins. You must be very careful, however: use little to no pressure and keep the speeds low. The other solution that I have seen being used with success is a dilution of phosphoric acid and water which brightens aluminum without damaging it, this could be a solution to cleaning the oxidation in the fins.
