I work at a bar with a few copper countertops which are extremely long, some at least a hundred feet total. (100ftx3feet) They are getting kinda dingy and I was going to tell the owner that I could possibly clean them up. Have any of you guys dealt with cleaning/polishing copper? I would assume since it is soft that I might be able to get away with something like High Gloss Polish on a black or white pad.

maybe wenol, autosol, or p21s finish restorer. just read the info on them and see if they are safe for copper. i think some places sell metal polishing pads in either foam or wool.

I just read this, don't know what to think of it.....

    8. I want to protect my finish with carnauba so it will last longer

Sorry, Carnauba is acidic. That means it will attack what is underneath.

It is also porous. That means it will get oxidization going too.

Just as a bonus you'll find that it will probably increase pitting on road vehicles as well. This is because by putting a soft surface over your wheels, tanks or whatever - you are helping to guide the missiles in, just like with a full metal jacket (used on an armor piercing bullet). Or a fitter using electrical tape over the painted wing of your car so he can drill a simple hole.

Carnauba is great for show vehicles that are subject to regular repolishing, and useful for protecting from road salt in morthern climates. otherwise, leave it off.

if that was the case, so many cars on the road would have no paint. the stuff people will cook up to sell wahtever :duh:

Hmm, I didn't realize that any old polish wouldn't work on metal. I want something a little more rotary friendly than those types of products. I have 106fa, HGP, Poorboy's World SSR Range...

how about some kinda metal polish like adams. i think something in liquid form like that could be used with a pad/polisher.

Hmm, perhaps. You see I know a lot of metal polishes are more abrasive for metal but copper is generally soft. I have up to Powergloss but I'm not sure how that would work out.
