So last night, I was cleaning up in the engine compartment of my S2000, and I spotted something that looked a little ratty. The hard lines for the A/C system are made of aluminum, and were oxidized. So I got out some Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish and a couple worn out Costco microfiber towels, and went to work: Much better!
There hard to keep that way, looks nice. Been doing the same on my 93 Integra, remove the battery, and go to it, these are old school lines, copper. Keep up the nice work.
Also give consideration to Collinite's Metal Wax for applications like this one... great stuff. Just be prepared to deal with an extensive amount of oxidative junk that gets removed (especially from aluminum lines) - paper towels work great and the end result is smart lookin'!
To tell you the truth, it just never crossed my mind. Then one day I looked under the hood, and wondered if they could be made to look nice. I put a magnet on them, and hey, look at that - aluminum! There's one back by the firewall that I just can't get to. Not without slicing my hand open, anyway. I live with it, but it really annoys me...
Thanks! This car has surprised me over the two plus years I've owned it - the engine bay, once clean, doesn't really get all crapped up. I don't drive the car in the rain if I can avoid it, so that helps as well.
Found out this afternoon that the spark plug cover on an S2000 is made of aluminum, not plastic. Most of it painted, but the raised lettering is bare metal. So, naturally, I had to go after it with some metal polish... Stuff used: - Wenol metal polish - Dremel Multi-Tool with polishing wheel - Costco yellow microfiber towels for cleanup To let me access the area better, I took the heater control valve free of the firewall, which also allowed me to better polish the A/C lines that are shown on page one of this thread. Now that I've seen the pictures, I've seen some places that I want to go back over to even the finish out. But, I think it looks better already... Before: in this picture, there is some Wenol on some of the letters, but I haven't worked it in yet... After:
