Wow am I strung out right now. I just got done playing a 50 dollar tournament with 40 people and unlimited buy ins. Worst case scenario by far. I was chip leader for a quarter of the game, and then some dude who was in a position to act after me, besides when I was on the dealer button, got a bad beat. He bought back in 11 freaking times, and just kept going all in. So add to the fact that I wasn't getting good cards, if I tried to make a stab at the pot, he was going all in. It was unbelievable. I'm dead inside haha.

It was a real game at a hunting club. So it was me just watching this guy spend $800 on a $50 buy in, and I'm paralyzed at the table because when I call him with premium hands he wins, and he overbets the pot so I can't make a decent bet. I'm steaming for sure. Only lost $100 but still, it's the principle of the matter.

I got knocked out early, but I couldn't imagine him coming anywhere close to winning. After the first 5 buyins and putting it all in don't work, wouldn't you play normally?

My first time hitting the casino's when I turned 18, I bought in $40 and walked with $400. $1/$2 cash NL table. It was amazing. I knocked out this old dude who kept getting like $100 in chips.. knocked him out twice in a row

Haven't been to a casino since

Game theory would dictate that you just call him with the best of your hands. You getting flustered at him doesn't help. I guess you'd just have to hope you get moved or he gets moved. Otherwise, he has to show down the hands he's been going all in with anyway.

Do you remember what kinds of hands he played while going all in?

I actually play quite a bit of poker relying heavily on the math now. It's why I've stopped detailing for money, hahaha.

Basically what I did. The worst hand I called him with was Q 10 suited, which was when he had a really low chip count, and he beat me. Every other hand was A 10+ and he beat me. I called in total about 4 times and lost every single time. He would go all in without looking, if he saw a facecard he'd go all in, majority of the hands were rags or rags with a facecard kicker, like K 5. People just kept rebuying so nobody moved and nobody was knocked out. I was low stacked even after the add-on so the third round I was short and you couldn't rebuy again, and I went all in on the big blind after a small raise from mid-late position with a guy who ALWAYS raised then, and he would up having AK suited against my A10 suited. I don't think the poker gods have it design for me.

Sounds like you were terribly unlucky.

You have to remember high cards vs two random cards is usually only 2:1 in winning ratio. Just based on the odds of what happened to you, just be proud that you made the right play.

Given the circumstances, I think the best thing to do when he wasn't looking would be call with any pair, even deuces, Ax, Kx or even QJ unsuited. Pairs play best against random hands statistically. The high card usually pulls you through most of the hands since neither of you are likely to make a pair, and pairs by themselves have a decent chance to be best when all five cards are out.

If I saw him look at one card, I'd call with K9 or better, A8 or better and again, any pair. I'm thinking these are the hands that would dominate what he calls with. Otherwise, I'm thinking it's not worth the risk since he'll just rebuy if someone else knocks him out anyway.

The tournament structure just doesn't sound like it'd favor the more skilled poker player though. I've never heard of unlimited rebuys. That's a little ridiculous especially for a no limit hold'em game.

Yeah it was pretty insane. People rebought probably 2 times a piece and then the add on. I did one rebuy and an addon. That guy did 11 and an add on.
