Hey guys, picked up a 2 year old Benz last month. I placed a decently large order from AutoGeek that included a PC, Edge 2k (i know some here don't like that), Natty's Blue, Megs #20, MF, Brushes, Etc. See what's missing? I didn't, until yesterday night. I need some polish. I really want to do the work this weekend, I won't have a free weekend for a a month at least. Paint is in good shape, there are light swirls and cobwebs. I called a few autobody supply stores. The only pro line I seem to be able to get is 3M stuff. So here's my query... Should I get some 3M Perfect It products... I'm thinking something like a swirl remover and a finisher... or should I get what I can at Walmart / AutoZone? In the latter, probably Megs OTS line, maybe SwirlX? I've never used a DA before, I've done a lot of homework this week though. If I go for what I can get at AutoZone, and maybe order Menzerna/etc for next time, any reccomendations? If I use Megs Swirl remover do I need a finisher? Is there really a AIO that can do it? Any tips on products? Thanks guys. I'm kicking myself for not ordering that polish. Shane
you could try the 3M products for OTC until you order some Menzerna. But if you can wait, and order Menzerna first, do that so you don't waste the money on the OTC stuff.
2 year old MB, so you're working with harder ceramic clear coat also. What region are you located in? There might be a local detailing shop that carries pro line products.
I'm in Florida -- Sarasota. I did just find ProperAutoCare in Tampa after reading your post, that's an hours drive. Autogeek is in West Palm but that's beyond my reach at this late moment. If you know of any others, that'd be wonderful. Appreciate the help. On top of the hard paint -- it's Black! The last OTS stuff I used, a few years ago, was Meguiars Deep Crystal. A whole world of more advanced polishes has been opened up to me now, I'm just slightly hating myself for forgetting these important items but remembering, you know, tire dressing and 303 UV protection...
Some OTC stuff is not a waste of money...if you can find Mothers Power Polish somewhere, I think you'll be extremely surprised in that product. Ive enjoyed it so much, it's a regular in my cabinet. I think OTC/mainstream/non-boutique products don't their due credit sometimes.
If I do pick-up some of the Mothers polish, is that a sufficient 1-step process? Should I maybe use a polishing pad followed by a finishing pad as the 2-step?
Meguiar's Ultimate Compound/SwirlX is the consumer version of M105/205 for the most part. It's a little weaker since they know what it could do in the wrong hands, but for the most part, it's fantastic stuff. I reach for it quite often.
If you're in Florida then Autogeek usually only takes a day to deliver, so you'll get it in plenty of time before the weekend. Alternatively, you should be able to find somewhere close by that stocks 105/205: Meguiars Dealer Locator
