I have a customer asking me to remove his pinstriping. I was considering the 3M Stripe Off wheel, but it might marr the paint and he doesn't want to book for a correction detail right now.

What are the other easy/cheap/safe solutions? He doesn't want to spend too much having it done, and I've only done it once with the 3M wheel and polished afterwards. I charged $100 for using the 3M wheel and it took about an hour.

Advice? How would you do it and what would you charge?

hmm. curious if the wheel mars the paint. I actually plan on getting one of those wheels soon.

i think the price is fair BTW. its very tedious work.

I recentely removed the pinstripes on a 06 Jeep Wrangler. I used a Hair Dryer on some spots, but for the most part they pilled right off, keep a grip close to the body and you can remove hugh sections.:thumb:

This Wrangler was Burgandy Red w/Silver Stripes. After removing the stripes you could clearly see were they had been. I had to hit it with 2000 grit paper followed by 105/205.
    It turned out looking Fantastic.....

It depends on how long they have been on. If they look like they are in fairly good condition they will be easy to get off. If they look very faded and rough to the touch they will be a bit more difficult. Get some 3m adhesive remover and take a rag and soak it a bit and press it up against the pin stripe, this will help loosen up the glue behind it. Once you hold it for about 15-20 seconds start to slowly peel it up. This should get the majority of it off.

You could also use this in conjunction with the wheel, yes the wheel will leave very light marring, but this can be taken care of with a fast pass with a buffer. He may not want a full correction but you can do a single pass over the area with something like a finishing polish and it will help get rid of the minor marring.

As flash said remove the sticker type stripes by pulling along the stripe not away from the car.A plastic razor blade helps.
And I wet sand stripes that have been painted on.

The wheel won't mar,but gets the paint hot quick (keep it moving). the adhesive wipes off with 3m adhesive remover on a MF very easy after hitting it with the wheel. I will NEVER use a heat gun and plastic blades again after the smart eraser type product.

I have used it and it left a slight marring, I guess it depends on the paint. It is not much, but you can see it in the right light. The wheel is a great tool, I had to take off pin stripe for a friend off a Suburban that wrapped all around it, boy was it a pain till we went out and got the wheel.
