Sorry, I should have made that clearer. What do you guys use to take pictures? I'm just starting out, and it seems like the small P&S I have isn't going to cut it. I am looking at a Nikon D90, but I'm not sure if I should be shooting so high. Maybe it was my settings?
I use a camera : Canon Rebel XT (350D) here. My favorite lenses I currently own are my 28-135 3.5-5.6 USM IS, and 50mm 1.8 prime.
Some of my friends play with cameras, and they advised me to get the body only if I'm going to go DSLR, and buy a 18-200mm lens. They said the bundle lens sucks and really isn't really going to cut it once I'm past the beginner stage. What are your opinions on this? This camera I'll probably use for detailing work, car photoshoots, and probably dates with my gf.
check out dpreview.com they have great reviews on cameras and an awesome forums that cover topics from cameras to pc/mac/storage
I have a Nikon D60 with a 16 - 85 lens. The lens that it came with is more than adequate for the average guy. Don't get sucked into buying an expensive lens just because ...... Practice with the bundle lens to see what your requirements are. I take a lot of pics in my shop which means I needed a wide angle to be able to get the whole car in.
I try to utilize my Canon XT with a 17-70mm when I remember to bring it to the shop, but we have a standard P&S Casio (10mpx) on hand just in case. If you just want to take full exterior shots, not many technical close ups, i think as long as you have a tri-pod (using an slr or P&S) pictures will come out pretty good.
Thanks for help guys. Looks like we'll be getting a D90 because we can get a very good deal on the camera. Going to get the kit lens with it just to try it out, and save some money to get some nicer specialized lenses down the road. That 2.8 looks really yummy!
