    So I am going to be getting the Makita 9227c in a few days, but not sure what backing plate, etc... to use.

    I currently have a PC 7424 with LOADS of 5.5inch pads and 5.5inchbacking plates. Also a few 6.5inch orange pads and 6.5inch PFW pads.

    Not sure what backing plate the Makita comes with from the factory, but what size do you guys recommend for a standard backing plate / pad size?

    I need to order some more foam and wool pads, but I'd like to get some opinions from you guys as to what I should get...

    Thanks!!

    alright, 3M it is then! what size though and what size pads/ type of pads? I usually buy from autogeek; do they carry them there?

    buy your 3m backing plate and pads from detailersdomain. The pads you have will fit on that backing plate.

    the backing plate that comes with the makita is too big for 5.5" pads.

    3M backing plate will fit your 5.5s quite nicely :)

    If you really wanna buy yourself a good "hurray!" present, buy your 3M backing plate from Polished Bliss and order up doubles of each of the 3M pads ;) (what I did :p)

    you guys agree that a 5.5 inch pad is a good size for a rotary? Ive seen people with 6.5, 7.5, even 8 inch ones. WHat is the most effective all-around?

    I find 5-5.5" pads work great with the 3M. 6.5" is pushing it a little IMO

    In terms of other sizes other than 3.5, 4, 5, 5.5, or 6.5, I have no idea, sorry

    I would get the Glos-it BP before dropping $60+++ on a 3M.

    Just looked at a few photos of the Gloss-it backing plate... and it looks like the velcro is "adhesively" held onto the meat of the plate itself. I had a few meguairs backing plates where this was the case, and after repeated removal of pads, it would separate... is this a known issue?

    The backing plate I have been attracted to is the Lake Country urethane flexible ones. Reason being is that the velcro portion of the backing plate is actually molded into the plastic itself, which means no separation.

    Also for a pad size, I was thinking of going with 7.5 inch LC rounded pads. Either CCS or the VC ones. Any opinions?

    7.5 inch pads is REALLY big though.... do they sell the VC and rounded pads in a smaller size?

    The only reason I liked the 7.5 inch setup is that they are recessed for EXACTLY a 6inch backing plate, which seems like a smart idea. If they had this combination that would work in a smaller sized backing plate - pad combo, that would be awesome!
