since i have no garage, i've been lookiing for alternative measures to detail outside and protect the car from the elements. i was planning to get a 12x14 ez up canopy but stumbled on this site and saw this item ShelterLogic® 20 x 12 Commercial Grade Canopy - at Carports USA . anyone ever dealt with them or seen one of these? most importantly, i wanted to see if it could withstand a new york winter. thanks! another question is 2inch diameter 17gauge steel a lot stronger than 1 3/8 inch 20 gauge steel? trying to decide with canopy to buy.

    Smaller gauge = thicker steel

That being said, we had something similar to this when I lived on Long Island. The canopy was for our boat and the canopy material made of the same kind of material our coat cover was, it was pretty strong, but over the winter it collapsed with a heavy snowfall. It did fine from September until January when it collapsed. Now, mind you, the poles are what gave out, not the canopy material, the thing pretty much buckled.

I had one like that a couple years ago and it could not stand up to a winter it collapsed on my wifes car leaving a very large crease in the roof . IMO its not worth buying .

here is a link for the place that I got my garage from they also have carports if you are interested Steel Carports | Future Steel Buildings

i was planning to tie one side up to my fence/gate and the other would be anchored to the floor somehow. if it would not hold up to snow, i'd probably just take off the canopy for the winter, it would atleast provide some protection from the bird bombs, sun, rain and hail we get. cheaper route too. thanks for the info

this looks awesome, but pricey. i also needed to factor in my fathers garden which he has on top of the cars. in the fall, we would have to take off the top so he can have access to his vegatables that are 40lbs hovering over the car... hanging on nothing but a little vine. thank you for showing me another option
