if you have a total budget of $2500 - 5000 what would you pick up... fix it up nice, with limited resources.... paint road worth etc I was thinking an old benz, bmw, vw, audi? wagon....
Hey Phil, I'm looking for a project car aswell an old MK1 Rabbit Coupe/GTI / Rabbit Pickup/ Jetta Coupe and I found a car today which is in really good condition, just basically need's some paint restoration and I can rock the patina. The interior sure does need some work though it's pretty gross haha. The ad: 84 VW Jetta GLI Red Sunroof 2 door 288,000km 5 speed Original un-molested example, even original radio-cassette still in dash. Original Snowflake wheels, trunk lid emblems also included, just not shown in pics. Out of the Barn fresh !! Needs fuel line to run. Does need other work...exhaust, etc. Great restoration candidate. Body is solid in usual problem areas on these models. $1,400
1. BMW 535is 2. BMW 635csi 3. Audi URS4 4. Jetta GLI 5. Porsche 944 6. MBZ 500SEC So many options Phil ... I would love to have a gray market shark or 5 series.
I'd personally pick this up, if I had the cash. 1985 BMW 6-Series Coupe - Stratford Cars For Sale - Kijiji Stratford Canada.
So sick! You'll love how simple and fun mk1's are, also really easy to work on. But just do you know it will be pretty damn slow haha but in return you'll be getting 40mpg's all day
there is a 88 325i convertible for sale near me...its in pretty great shape actually and what needs love cosmetically I would be able to take care of myself. Unfortunately I don't have the greatest knowledge what to look for as far as mechanical concerns so I was hesitant to really look further into it.
My dad was actually given one to him from a customer of his that didn want it anymore and my dad spent a few thousand dollars getting it painted dark metallic blue it came out great the interior was also in mint condition since the owner had it stored in the garage. He took it to his friends shop and had it tuned up and it still runs like a champ it was also a diesel. He gave it to my uncle though since they were going through a tough time financially. I actually really liked that ride I was fun to drive.
Someone has to buck the Teutonic tide. Excluding the fact that I don't have the time or space I'd be looking for an Alfa Romeo Milano (preferably a Verde), the last of the true Alfas. The GTV6 might also be an option but a Milano Verde out performs the GTV. I'd also be interested in a 105/115 series Alfa coupe, one of the prettiest small coupes ever IMO but given the budget that would either mean a car in very rough shape or a clueless seller. Any of the Alfas would, of course, be a fair weather car only. On a slightly more practical level the Toyota MR2 is a great little car. Styling, especially on the first series cars, was admittedly not a strong point. The fun-to-drive quotient, however, is high. A good friend of mine who has owned a very long list of Jaguars, Porsches, TVRs, BMWs, Triumphs, Mercedes Benz, Datsun/Nissan Z cars, RX-7s, etc., rates the little Toyotas as perhaps the best value as a driver's car.
