Paint Thickness Guage

Discussion in 'Tools - Machine Polishers, Pressure Washers, Detai' started by Joshs2013MSAltimaSL, Dec 16, 2009.

  1. Hi all, I'm pretty sure this topic has been covered a lot. I've read a few threads about PTGs from HF that are cheap, but may not be of high quality. I'm no pro, mostly just work on my own car and family's cars. I'd like to get a PTG just for my own knowledge, but do not want to spend a lot. I'd also like something accurate so I can be confident in the readings I'm getting. What do you guys suggest? Thanks for all the help!!

+1 if that is to much you can go to harbor freight and get one of their paint meters but those might be hard to find.

  4. Yes, I've seen the Highline ones and I'm very close to getting it but wanted to make sure nothing else new has come out or something. I doubt HF has any left over.

The question is do I get the first generation or the second generation?

I have the 1st gen one. The 2nd gen might be a tad smaller, but not sure. If they are the same price, gen the 2nd gen.

I think anytime you start working on other peoples vehicles it would be a good tool to have. I went without one for about 3 years and I must be honest, since having it I have a lot more confidence when tackling some of those cars who's paintwork is a bit 'dodgey' :applause2:

  13. I think a PTG is useful for really any detail. Since I really don't do anyone else's cars, I will most likely polish mine more often and I think it would be nice to know how much clear I'm working with.
