The events portrayed herein are factual and occurred during the summer of 2011 My uncles father in law is a 70 y/o retired man who bought himself his first brand new car ever (His name is Lucien). Granted it's "just" a Sonata and many won't see the big deal, he very much loves his car. Unfortunately he lives in a large apartment complex and has to park in the complex underground parking, where we all know people can be careless and run away without leaving notice if anything happens. So this is exactly what happened. He parked his car nose first on a corner, and people damaged his car (I think he may have backed up into a high side walk as well, but whatever ) He came to see me because my uncle told him I repaired paint, too bad he didn't explain I repair scratched paint by polishing it. I looked over the car and explained to Lucien that I could fix it, but it would take at least a day and that because of the type of work, that I could not guaranty anything. I told him $250 would cover materials and time to which he agreed seeing as it was 1/4 of what the dealer quoted him. Now, on to the pictures. Here is the damage I had to fix,; Passenger side rear bumper corner: Driver side rear bumper and quarter panel. Note that there was an attemp by another "gar guy" to fix this damage with a touch-up pen: Rear bumper (Where I suspect he back up into a sidewalk): Repair work being done: (For those wondering, this is rust preventing paint that was applied to bare metal before reparing the body) I don't have any during shots of the paint as I was alone on this job. Before you scroll down to view them, I want to point out that I was not 100% satisfied with the results, and made this clear to Lucien to which I said "I'm not happy with the job, and because of that, you don't pay for it. It's free of charge." Here are the afters for you to see for yourself. It turns out he was more than happy with the job since "at 3 feet away, you can't tell anything was damaged" (I can still tell...especially the driver side quarter which isn't 100% the right shape) He "forced" me to take the agreed upon payment of $250 and tacked on a $50 tip as well. I guess I really have high standards. lol thanks for reading.
Looks a lot better and you'll only get better with every repair. :thumb: On a side note... I do a lot of driving on the 401 east of Toronto and see many cars from Quebec. Most are in the "before" condition. I thought, in Quebec, brand new cars leave the dealership like that. :
Thanks! and lol, no they don't leave the dealer like that. We just have a bad driving reputation (for a reason) in Quebec. If you've ever been in Montreal, you know. Last night, driving home, I almost hit 3 pedestrians who weren't looking when crossing (on my green light, their red), and had to avoid roughly 7 or 8 cars that almost caused accidents. We were having a "snow storm" of about 5-10 cm...it's like most of the people here now haven't ever seen snow before (a lot haven't) and everyone drives like no one else is on the road. Explains why so many cars are damaged
It's body filler. I used it to fill in the gouges in the plastic. I played with the concentration to make it more flexible so it won't crack when the bumper flexes a little.
Joey, you did a fantastic job bro. What did you do to paint it? You have your own gun and paint? Prep looks good by the pics and the results are better than before so you should be thankful for being paid for accomplishing what you prmised him
Haha. Thanks. Actually, when I have small jobs like this, I have the paint prepared by a shop and put into a can. However, this time, the guy who prepared my paint mixed it wrong and the color was coming out darker than the car. So I had to cheat. I went to an auto-parts store and bought the silver which resembled the car most. When I was spraying, I mixed both colors in fume form to get the proper color. In person, you can tell it was repaired, but you can't tell it not the "right" color. I do have my own paint gun though, I just haven't ever used it on a car. Maybe one day I'll end up painting a car, but I doubt it. It's a lot of work.
I see and it's shows that you did a great job by the owner's answer. We look at things through a microscope. Enough said :help:
