Anyone dilute their wheel gel, for just regular washing when full strenth is not needed, but enough to clean the brake dust quickly and hopefully without removing any LSP on the wheels?
+1 I actually use the 3 bucket method when washing my car. the standard 2 buckets, and a third bucket for just wheels/wells/tires. My wash solution in the wheel bucket is CWG with a capful of ONR.
I e-mailed P21S directly about this issue and the guy who responded to me said that diluting the product will weaken its effectiveness and the gel won't cling as well as using it straight up, which is important because it's the dwell time that really makes the product so effective. P21S Gel uses detergent power to clean the rims so after 1 or more applications of the product, it will have stripped any wax and sealant on the rims. I agree with the other poster that if you want to keep a coat of wax on your rims, then just use soap and water to clean them. Personally, I just spray some Optimum Car Wax on the wheels after every wash or every other wash. It's easy enough to use almost every car wash so that I can use my preferred wheel cleaners and have clean and shiny rims.
Interesting. I've been using undiluted P21S gel and it really is good stuff. But because it's so viscous, it takes a lot more product to full coat a set of wheels. I've started to spray my wheels down with a little water then apply the gel. Product seems to spread out more evenly and creates a bit of foam (I know this isn't really important, but gives the illusion that it's more effective) which I like. Also doesn't dry out so quickly in the desert heat.
Yeah, for maintenance cleanings, I have no probblems pre-wetting the wheel when I don't need the dwell time. I also diluted my P21S Gel at 1:1 on a few occasions and seemed to work just fine, but I only dilute what I'm going to use right before I start cleaning.
