hi folks, I just recived my P21s gel version wheel cleaner few days ago and want to ask some questions regarding the product. I have heard polished rims get screwed using p21s. so is the product safe for all wheel types?
P21s is actually one of the safest wheel cleaners available. you should be fine using this product on just about any wheel. Its good cleaning ability in combination with it being safe for all wheels is why it is such a popular product in the detailing world
It will be safe on anything but un-coated aluminum wheels, but really nothing other than water is truly safe to use on those. P21s wheel cleaner will be perfectly safe to use on any other type of wheel finish, un-coated aluminum wheels are pretty rare so dont need to worry about it for the most part.
If you have un-coated aluminum wheels you will know as you paid alot of money for them and are aftermarket. Most any wheel you will come across if you detail for pay will be coated in some form or another. If you are just doing your own cars, if you have stock wheels they will be clear coated and p21s will no harm anything at all.
Not true my detailing product laden friend! I have used AG CWC on a set of recently polished Alcoa aluminum wheels with excellent results. Has anyone tested P21S on polished aluminum? I thought it would be safe for those.
Hmm...good to know...good to know...all I know is uncoated aluminum wheels are dumb and I know one person who has them and tell him that when I see his car.
I agree. I had a set of polished Centerlines once and it was a part time job to keep them looking new.
freeking true that...those type of wheels are extremely high maintaince, why do people buy them anyway???
A friend of mine said he usually spend around an hour to clean the wheels only. I appreciate his effort but it is great if he spends some time on his supercar's body and the inteior. The wheels looks good and clean most of the time but the other part are full of dirt and dust. He has told me that cleaning the wheels make him to give up doing other things as he gets very tired everytime he washes his car.
I had a set of aluminum wheels from DTMAutohaus in 2001, and another set in 2002 on my MK4 GTI. The centers were powdercoated, but just having a wheel with a polished bare barrel was easily the most difficult thing to keep clean ever. I had no garage, and to truly get the wheels clean, they needed to be removed; each time you clean. I was sponsored, and the wheels still came in around $3000 for a staggered set, but they were made to my offset and specification. While I miss the days of being young, dumb, and having nothing better to do than to spend a lot of money on cars, I would never go back to it. That being said, when the wheels were brand new or just cleaned, every minute of effort was completely worth it- the look of bare aluminum wheels is amazing. That was also what got me into detailing. Now I spend thousands on product to keep my small ungaraged stable in tip top form. I will also mention that I lost less than $400 total selling those wheels once I was done with them.
I have just serviced a full body wash to my co-worker's car this morning and it took me about 3 hours to complete the exterior and interior. I clayed his car (06 matrix in silver) last summer and his car never get wash until I touched it today. Specifically talking about the wheels, they are full of brake dust and other girt because of its after market brakes. I spread a fair amount of P21S gel on each of them and allowed it to sit for a half an hour while I was cleaning the interior. I cleand and rinsed it off after 30 mins and still saw some stain (in yellow) on the wheels specially those at the front. I told him that I wan't able to clean up the stains bythe is still satisfied with the outcome as he doesn't really care if they cannot be seen from the very close. But I am concerned that the stain came out because of the wheel cleaner. Does it matter if you leave the gel cleaner to dry on wheels for more than 10 mins?
