Hi, I'm going to be detailing my buddie's 997 porsche turbo that is black (not metallic). I have my paint correction/LSP plan down thanks to Ken and others. Anywho, he recently waxed his car so I'm going to need strip the LSP off. I tried just CG CWC in a foam cannon at "stripping strength" with no avail on my M3 when I polished it. The LSP was still there after claying as well. So......I was going to mix in some optimum power clean into the foam cannon to help with the pain stripping or use a dilution of OPC prior to foaming. The car is going to be washed outside and I know people let the foam "dwell" on the car for 5 minutes or whatever, but I was worried that it may stain or hurt the finish if it dried? I guess I'm trying to understand how to best strip LSP without stainging the paint (which happened to my dad's silver F150 when I sprayed OPC @ 3:1 on certain areas). I have a gilmore foam gun with CWC at LSP stripping strenght. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great, and what ratio's you use of CWC and OPC in the foam gun. Thanks so much. Matt
I think I read chris@optimum said to strip LSP you use powerclean straight up no dilution. Have to find that post again.
Really?? That would make me uber nervous. Especially if the sun is semi out while you're doing it. Let it dry?
You shouldn't be getting staining if you don't leave it on too long to dry or leave it out in the baking sun. Don't spray it on a hot panel either especially on a black or dark colored car. You shouldn't be letting any degreasing product dry anyways.
I use 1:1 powerclean with half an oz of dawn and it rips pretty much everything right off the car. LOL
Kilo, is here a reason only "DAWN" dishsoap is ever mentioned for stripping LSP? I've used other dishsoaps too with great success. Just wondering what makes Dawn so special.
Dawn has always worked for me, with the clay bar nothing ever remains. Dawn is a detergent, used to strip all oils from your dishes!
Thanks for the help guys. I'll go 1:1 on the opc with some dawn in the foam gun and see what happens. If this doesn't work I'll resort to an ipa wipe down. Once you apply with the gun do u just start washing with your suds then rinse? Or do u let it dwell to the point of nearly drying?
If the wax is still there after your OPC foaming and claying on the friends car the polishing step in the detail will remove it for sure. If you are also worried about the OPC drying on the car try and get an early start before the sun is overhead in your area to reduce that happening. I usually get started on my details at about 7 A.M. so that I know the panels will be cool.
It's the foam gun that is preventing stripping. Just spray OPC on the panel, let it dwell a bit , then bucket wash and rinse. Foam looks cool, but it's just for washing lubrication. The dilution with water and all the air makes the chemical LESS effective.
Dawn is a generic term really, Palmolive works good too. But I prefer Dawn because it save baby animals from oil spills so obviously its ok on a car.
We were going to get started about 8am as I'm making by friend help me and he wished to start at 8 am since we have all day. I preferred that as well because if I started at 7am I'd hit the wall by 2 or 3 pm. Oh crap! Really? What dilution on the opc do you use for spraying directly on the panel? I've heard 1:1, 3:1, or straight undiluted? Thanks so much.
