ONR! What about this technique?

1.Dilute the ONR into a 32oz sprayer bottle
2.Pre-spray each panel on the car with the solution
3.Fill one 5 gallon bucket with regular warm water
    4. Dip the wash mitt into the warm water, squeeze off access water before wiping the car panels and spray the mitt a few times with the ONR solution before wiping the already pre-sprayed panel.
5.Use the bucket to rinse off dirt/salt particles from the wash mitt and repeat process.

Unlike the regular technique where you actually dilute the ONR INSIDE the bucket, I plan to fill the bucket with water and nothing else. The purpose being to conserve ONR. I figured if I use 4 gallons of water, that's at least 2 ounces of ONR.... but a 32oz sprayer bottle (which should be plenty for a regular sized vehicle will only require about 1/2 of an ounce if even that.

Let me know what you guys think about this?

Do you think it will work?

Personally, I would rather put the 2 ounces of ONR in the bucket instead. And only use the 32oz sprayer of ONR to soak heavily soiled areas before washing. Just my opinion.

    :agree:
There is usually enough left over to bottle up and do another vehicle or two.

LOL its cheap enough that I wouldn't even worry about that.

Well, I already spend waay too much money on detailing stuff. Probably not that much compared to some of you but all my relatives and friends think I am nuts.

For these winter washings where the car is always very salty and dirty, I just pre-rinse the whole car thoroughly outside with my CR Spotless. Then I go inside and do a normal ONR wash.

If your water isn't too hard, you can just pre-rinse outside with a hose and then go inside and wash.

I want to stay away from that because:

a.) We have over 2 feet of snow outside
    b.) It is freezing
c.) My water hose is frozen
d.) The last time I tried spraying my car with a hose below 32 F degrees, my car looked like a popsicle.

    To get back on topic,

I'd really like to hear someone's opinion as to why my "proposed" technique WOULDN'T work. Obviously, we all know it will be easier and less time consuming to just dilute the ONR in the bucket, but I'm at a point where I want to start conserving what I have. I just feel bad about pouring 2-3 ounces of ONR into a bucket and having to dump that solution a half hour later after the wash because with all the road salt we are getting in Chicago, there is no way I would ever even think about reusing old ONR/water solution and introducing the salt back onto my paint.

The technique you have explained would work in my opinion if you were to do a thorough rinse off of all the gunk and salt first. I would be a little worried that using only a sprayer and water bucket might induce some unwanted scratches..

Also there's nothing wrong with wanting to conserve product(s).

How about doing the normal procedure like most people and dilute the ONR in a bucket? Would that still introduce scratches if the vehicle is not rinsed first? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a "rinseless" car wash lol?

You only need 2 gallons of ONR to wash a car, 3 max with a grit guard, so you would only be using 1 1/2 oz' per wash. I dont see how you would need that much product. Pretreat any nasty areas with ONR at QD dilution and use the 2 bucket method if you are worried about reintroducing any salt back onto the paint.

Good point. For me I would want to use 2 buckets. Hopefully someone else can chime in on this as well.

Didn't mean to imply you technique wont work. Just saying how I do it. When a lot of winter salt and brine is present I first go to the local wash bay and blast the salt and road debris off. I only save the remainder of the ONR during the summer. A lot of members pre-soak extra dirty or winter trashed cars before the ONR wash.Nothing wrong with conserving product but ONR is fairly cheap per application as Dubbin1 mentioned.

I did what you did when I first using ONR, and it works. but I used 2 pressure spray bottle to spray a fine mist all over the car ( total of 64 oz of ONR wash solution ). I used CR spotless water tho....then dry with OID.

  19. The mitt needs to be soaked in the solution to help pull the dirt away from the paint. The way you are proposing would work fine with OptiClean though because it was made to use similarly. It also loosens dirt faster and has wetting agents ONR doesn't.

Thanks for the tip Chris. Got Opti-Clean on my list but haven't pulled the trigger just yet.
