ONR & OQD questions

i bought and used ONR for the first time today, cleaned what seemed pretty well, and then left the car shiny, so obviously it worked great. my question about ONR is that with 2 gallons of water, will it produce any suds with a sponge or no, i was all :shead: while using it. then onto the OQD, i bought the big jug from phil and mixed 1:3 as directed, but following the ONR with it seemed to make it hazy and then hard to remove, is this because the ONR is supposed to be used alone or did i dilute it wrong?

 

ONR should have zero suds. What is OQD?

 

I'm assuming he means OID (optimum instant detailer). I usually mix it more like 4:1/5:1 as I found it to be a little streaky for me at 3:1. One spray per panel is all you really need. I generally flip the towel over after a few panels also.

Distilled water with OID if you are using it as a glosser, final wipe, windows etc... is a better idea for streak free wiping. If used as a clay lube I would imagine tap water is fine if you are planning to polish or seal afterwards.

I too use this and recommend this around 3.5:1 or 4:1 which stretches it farther while making it easier to use.

This product definitely has some actives in it which provide the gloss and a little protection so diluting it down definitely makes it much easier to use so youre not wiping around for days and days.

How many days the diluted ONR can be stored? I notice that the solution will lighten.

 

No limit. It will turn pale after a few days (supposedly does not clear if you use distilled water but never do that) and is still good.

 

These guys are right on track. OID only takes a spray per panel and move your towel over it slowly or buff it in like a spray wax to be streak free. Distilled water gives you consistent performance with OID and ONR doesn't change color with distilled water.

 

Thanks! I´ll use distilled water to test, but I think that´s the problem.

 

Lightening does not decrease the effectiveness at all. It's just a reaction as some polymers soften the water.

Folks, I´ve used ONR to clean cars interiors too, did already you that?

ONR is good to remove powder of cockpit too?

Good to know about the lightening not affecting anything. I noticed my wash bucket would be almost clear by the end of a detail sometimes, and my spray bottle would lighten after a day or two also. Now I know I don't need to throw out the old ONR anymore.

 

So a 4:1 is good for QD but what ratio would I use for a spray waterless wash? Clay lube? I thought 4:1 for waterless wash, 8:1 QD and 16:1 for clay lube? Im getting ready to use ONR for the first time and just want a good starting point.

 

Not a single ratio you've listed is right for ONR. Are you asking about another product?

I am talking about ONR. I have seen alot of different mixtures that people are using. What would the ratio be for the 3 applications listed?

 

1oz per 2 gallons for rinseless washing. 8oz per gallon for QD or waterless washing (not officially recommended for waterless as we have OptiClean for that). 2oz per gallon for use as a clay lube (you can add a little more if you like it slicker).
