Aloha Everybody, So I have some time off school and really want to get busy with practicing my hobby. I'll be taking a semester off to work full-time so I figured in my down time I'd practice using a rotary on some scrap metal and prep myself this winter. My proposition is this: Many of you have been detailing for quite some time and there may be products and/or materials which you do not use anymore and are infact taking a lot of shelf space. Instead of throwing them out I would be more than happy to take them off your hands. I'll even pay the shipping to have it shipped over to my house. One of the items I desperately need are pads....I want to really push the limits of my rotary and burn the paint so I know what amount of pressure is good and bad. I need old pads to do this. Other items/products that you don't use will be happily taken off your hands. Trust me there's very little I'd probably say no to at this point. I really want to try new things So look around for any old polishes, waxes, pads, bottles, ANYTHING that has some dust collected on it and I will send you my shipping info and some money through paypal. Thanks everybody and Cheers, Waseem
I can hook you up with some stuff. Polishes and pads for sure. What size bp is on your rotary? The 3M one?
Just saw you are in Canada. No biggie, just shipping will be more than if you were to get stuff from a Canadian member.
Watch this vid, it's hard to do so. You will need to use a very aggressive polish and multiple pads if they are old since they will fall apart unless the clear coat is very thin. YouTube - Rotary polish burn through on someones car
yeah its relatively hard to do. i tried to do it a couple weeks ago on a scrapped hood at work with a wool pad and an aggressive body shop compound at 3000 rpm, left the pad on the same spot at a slight angle for almost a minute maybe more and while it did burn the clear, it did not burn through. i did it multiple times on same spot, and could not get it to go all the way through.
I had a friend who let me practice on his GTO when I first started because he could care less and that had dodgy clear....I'll let your imagination figure out what happened on that panel.
Thanks Bryan! funny you ask....I'm actually going to be in Toronto from the 24th till the 28th. Are you going to be open any of those days? Thanks I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot! I am going to be getting the Flex 3401 VRG from Ken @ autowerks and the 5.25'' LC pads so I guess the corresponding backing plate. I will be ordering it very soon from Ken. And I don't mind paying a bit extra for shipping....I've gotten use to it. I just wanna say THANKS A LOT to the forum members for helping me out. I appreciate it big time! I really lol'd at the raiding carlos's garage comment. If only he was within 1000km Waseem
If you guys could only see my basement, wish I could say it's all neat and organized...quite the opposite to be honest, boxes every where. We moved to our new house and most of the detailing products are still boxed, I just got enough to get me by, haven't been detailing much lately  I'll take a look at what I have, I've got some used Menzerna pads any one is more then welcome to have, I'll take a look and post some pics. I'm a huge fan of Menzerna pads...but I'm a little hard on them...but I've got a case or two of them in the basement, like the Sonus pads :thumb: One thing I've learned is it's best to purchase in bulk, that way you'll always have spare
wow just watched that video and it does seem pretty hard to burn the paint. BUT if the pad becomes the color of the paint that means the clear has been burnt through right? and...that also means the pad needs to be replaced and there is no more clear left? noob questions....this is why I need to practice practice practice. and Nica....shotgun on some menz pads Waseem
It is fairly hard to burn clear when the paint is of good condition and healthy thickness... I did a car a month ago with very very thin clear and in a few spots my uber green pad and Menzerna SIP evaporated what little clear was left.... that is why a ptg is so important!
If the pad becomes the colour of the paint right away then that means you're dealing with single stage paint....no biggie there, just a little harder to clean the pads. Here's a TR6 I did in the summer with ss paint: http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f47/74-tr6-single-stage-paint-10769.html
