I just wanted to share some stuff with the forum. I don't usually contribute but felt like I needed to help the new guys and even some of you that have been around for a while might learn something. I have a metro vac n blo and had been fighting low suction. I found that the top wasn't on very tight and air was leaking like made around the lid. I tried to put gasket tape around the bottom of the lid but that didn't help. I ended up wrapping the lid with a piece of electrical tape to seal it up. If you have one of these Vacs give that a try. This will also help with larger vacuums but with those the foam tape really helped seal up the lid to the canister. Both of these will increase the suction of your vacuum and help clean the carpets deeper. My next item I would like to share is using the small wheel woolie to dust the dash and doors. I would usually use my brush on the vacuum attachment but I feel like using this small woolie gets more of the dust off. I just didn't know what to use that small woolie for but now I have found its purpose. For those of us that need to find a use for our old ONR I think I found a use for it. I started using it when washing my towels in conjunction with my detergent and it seems to help get more of the crude out and my towels feel so much better out of the dryer. Give it a try next time. I hope some find this information helpful. I want to thank all of you that have helped me since I started my journey in detailing. Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk
Thanks mrgolfrider, I appreciate it. Didn't realize I was losing suction with my metro vac n' blo, but I did notice the hinges don't hold the lid down as tight as I would like. I'll try it out. Also, just expanding on the tape thing, I do the same on my Bissel Little Green Machine. Where the head of the vacuum snaps into place with the hose, there's a slight gap around the release button to remove the head. I put some tape over it to increase suction. It may only be a ~10% increase in suction but it's worth it.
I was losing suction onmy vac n blo, I figured that the reusable bag was full so i emptied it out and tried it again. Still, the suction was low. I found out why. There was so much dust in the bag that didn't come out with a good shaking and it was clogging up the air passing through. I washed it with some dawn and water and let it dry. Worked like a charm after that!
A clean cloth bag is key to these vacuums. I have two for that reason. I honestly have not washed them. What do you think about washing them with a hand wash cycle in the washing machine? If anyone doesn't know this already, using the unit without the bag and lid while in blower mode gives the best results. Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk
Are you using the paper filter bags? If not, the cap fits very loosely. Also, I have the smaller Metro vac and the downside is the paper bags fill up quickly so suction reduces fairly fast. I still am looking for an optimum tool for carpets. It needs to have short (to reduce loss of suction) and reasonably stiff bristles. This may be related to my comment above since brushes by their nature cause suction drop. Hmmmm. I was always concerned about getting ONR to rinse out.
I just washed it out by hand and a garden hose.mi think there would be waaaaaay too many dirt particles in the bad and my mother would have my head on a platter if she knew what I was doing to that washing machine.
