So I was doing a detail today on a 06 corvette and while I was putting on the tire dressing I discovered a new way to apply tire dressing (atleast I think it's new). While I was pouring some opti bond on my applicator I managed to drop it in a puddle of dirty water (fail) but luckily while trying to catch it, some ended up on my hands and I decided to wipe it on the tire and go get another applicator. But as soon as I did it, it hit me that its seems like a great way to apply dressing. Since I use nitrile gloves almost all the time it doesn't get all over my hands and since it doesn't absorb the dressing there is almost zero product loss, and it made it really easy to get right around the rim and on the part where the tire hits the ground. I'm def going to be using this method from now on.
I get some strange looks when I apply Carnauba wax with my bare hands, I can just imagine, 'Now he’s caressing his tyres’!
I just get in the car and move it a few feet lol. I have been known to skip this step on my car though.
I like using an applicator as I can work the product into the rubber and apply an even coat. Oh and if you're serious about tire dressing, you put the car in neutral and push it forward a foot or two to evenly apply the dressing to that bottom of the tire for a flawless application every time. :applause2:
You made it sound so enticing I gave it a go today haha. I found it was hard not to overapply dressing in order to get even coverage but it was definately far more precise and interesting compared to an applicator. Nice idea!
One of the things I recently picked up that I was going to try (not sure if it's been done before) was use a meat basting brush/bottle for applying my dressing. Gonna test it out this weekend detail, but looks like it might be a cool little applicator.
I can only imagine what the wifey would say if she sees me doing the hand application ... "you ain't touching me with those Armor-All hands" LOL.
ifi started rubbin..g my tires with tire dressing .id probably get aroused!! and that wouldnt look good to the neighbors..:drinking2:
