Does anybody have any inside knowledge about Meguiars M100 Pro Speed Cut? I noticed ADS has some coming up for sale in 8 days. Looks like it is a lot cheaper than M101.
From Meguiars, reposting here: Re: M100 Pro Speed Compound No, it is NOT designed for use with a DA and microfiber pads. That information posted elsewhere is incorrect and in the process of being changed at our request. That said, we know that people are going to experiment with it on a DA with all kinds of pads, just as they did with M105 and M101. Fine by us, really. But even M101 wasn't designed for use with a DA and MF pads - it was specifically designed for the European aftermarket paint industry where foam pads on rotary buffers are the norm (they almost never use wool pads) and the aftermarket paint is very different than it is here in the US. We created M101 to meet the demands, requirements and workflow of that very specific market segment. But some guys here in the US started re-porting it (re importing, as it were) back to the US and using it with their microfiber pads. They may be getting a lot of dust, but they're also getting really fast cut and a very nice finish, so to them it's more than worth it. And we got enough feedback and demand for it here in the US that we just released it for domestic sale. But back to the subject at hand - M100. Again, a specific target market with this product: the mid-tier body shop user who is looking for a cost effective but highly efficient way to quickly remove sanding marks with a wool pad and rotary buffer. In that segment there is a very popular product that we directly targeted with M100. It's from a company that is popular in the body shop world but almost never discussed in detailing circles, and not even sold through your typical online detailing supply shops like ADS, AG, etc. M100 will remove sanding marks faster than this competitor, and leave a nicer finish in the process. Win-win. So does that mean you can NOT use this with a DA and microfiber of foam pads? No, it doesn't mean that. We're always open to experimentation. In some cases it will probably do an outstanding job when used that way, and for some people it may even be seen as "the next big thing". We didn't expect that with M101, but there it is. Just keep in mind that if you try it in a way other than it was designed to be used and it fails to meet your expectations, at least you'll understand why. This is getting ridiculous. 105, then 101 and now 100. Why not just teach these guys how to polish. Just saying....
I am very good friends with the national paint finishing consultant with meguiars, this is going after the shops that use malco, presta automagically and such.
However many M's they come out with, at least they are all very good, the more choices the better IMO.
Do they really think that our attention spans are that short? Or are they reformulating everytime a competitor comes out with something new? Sounds like Chem guys to me!
I read Todd Helme's excellant review/comparison of M105 vs Menz new FG 400, for me M105 is still the clear choice since I rather like PC's and MF pads, the FG400's weak point. I have M101 but haven't tried it yet, but the reports are very good so I'm looking forward to using it. Now, M100 - I'm a little like what tha? but hey, if too many choices is a problem, then detailing aint for you.......think about it.
FG400's weak point is microfiber pads as in it won't work with them?, the cut is not quite as much(As M105) but the finish left behind is WAY BETTER much like D300 but FG400 cuts more than D300. Get some M101 as it is the cutting champ at the moment bar none.
Have you tried adding a bit of M101 to the FG400 yet Bob? Just wondering if they play well together if you needed a bit more cut.
I read Todd's review and yeah 105 played better with MF pads than FG400 did, apparently a lot better, but on foam, it seemed to be a toss up as the pics looked too close to call, with a slight edge towards FG400. All things being equal, if FG400 dusts less than 105, I'll use it, I trust both brands.
I've achieved nice results with FG400 and MF pads, very nice cut and finish. Best finish was achieved with optimum/CG cutting pads and Flexipads cutting MF pads , the Megs MF cutting pads offer a little more cut, but doesn't finish as well. Did you saturate the MF pads Bob? Kind regards, Ebbe
Hey Bob - just pointing out Todd's review in that Menz and MF was not the best combo, but as always, there are the other million variables to take in. I have M101 and I'm really excited to use it, only thing is that for the time being, all my work is just regular wash & wax jobs. Man, how many times did I have the hard shelled beast and felt like I was trying to polish a lump of coal into a diamond. D300 for me is the 1 polish I grab more than anything else, I LOVE that Big Red chewing gum smell and it polishes without any finicky quirks. If more cut is needed - just add a little M105 to the mix. We've come a long way from the Malco's, Megs single digits & 80's series, Hi-Temp (remember that!) and the old 3M cancer in a bottle stuff, this is a great time to be detailing. The new stuff is better than ever. BTW - I was a big Menzerna guy in the past, still have a little FFII, but after trying their compound, I switched to M105, it's good to see them with a new product.
It must have been that the paint on the three cars I used it on worked well, opinions vary.................................................: :giggle: No Ken I did not use M101, as the Menz product has oils and a different abrasive in as opposed to the SMAT Meguiars when we all do this with M101/D300. The FG 400 cuts enough and leaves to my eyes a better finish than D300 much like PF 2500 with more cut.
Thought I'd pass along this along, Auto Detailing Solutions has a darn good sale on M101 & M105 now,and 101 is IN STOCK!
