I'm in the market for a new car, been doing some research and wanted to see some opinions. I'm looking at either an 09 m5 or 09 gtr. This will be a daily don't get much snow but we do get some(no more than couple inches). I don't have kids and don't plan to do so for a while so I don't need to worry about that. Lets hear your opinions thanks

My friend has a GT-R. He told me he'd never have it as a daily driver. Not sure if you've ever driven one, but they are extremely mechnical. It's like you feel and hear the entire car working at all times.

Thanks for the input, I am leaning more toward the m5 bc it's still a badass car but practical to an extent with 4 doors and still fast as balls

+1 even the new ones make all kinds of noises... plus the ride is harsh, very harsh. The GT-R works really well when going fast but any other time I'd rather be driving something more civil and well built.. heck you could steal a 996Turbo for less that what you'd get either car M5 or GT-R.

If its a daily what about something like a 09 C63 Benz?

i would look into regular maintenance costs as well. I new someone that had a GTR and he dumped it because every 2-3,000 miles it hit his wallet hard weather it be all 4 tires needed replaced or brakes and oil changes.

I too have heard the GT-R is a complete pain on the roads. It rides like a rock. Ever consider an 08 911 Turbo?

+1 on the GT-R being very mechanical when driving. I dove a friends GT-R in college for a little while my jeep needed work and it loud, I loved it though and I could definitely DD one, (I DD my srt8 jeep with header and catback exhaust so that is loud in of itself). That being said if AWD isnt necessary I agree with c63 amg for sure, drove one when I was looking at my jeep and if it wasnt for michigan weather I would have ended up with that I think. Or if your into modding go with an older S4 and have some fun with that, also saving cash in the process.

I like my porsche. It isn't practical, but it sure is fun and just feels right even though it's not as fast as a gtr.

M5 for a DD. If your not hard set on German, how about a CTS-V?

SMG sucks and the manual transmission isn't geared properly for the v10 engine. It's a shame. That great engine gets no love from either transmission.

Around the city SMG III can be choppy but get it on the highway and you can give the car all you can and it will beg for more. It is an absolute beast with an intoxicating exhaust note, I had an 07 with an Eisenmann Race exhaust and my neighbors loathed me.
