I currently have a Canon 60 D, but I'm debating whether to buy the Nikon D800 or the Canon 5D Mark iii anyone have any experience with these or know anyone that has one?

I like the nikkor lenses beTter I have a D70 that I have had for years and other than having the shutter readjusted, its been solid.

I'm a nikon guy - got an F2 fotomic and a D40. From what I know the D800 is a solid camera. However, if you have lenses invested from your 60D I'd stick with the Canon.

Both are great cameras. It all depends on what feels most comfortable in your hands (shape, button configuration, etc.). I would go to the store and see what feels best. Also if you are choosing between the two brands, I would look at the lens lineups for both. Good quality lenses are more important than the camera bodies. I'm a Canon guy and I have 5D MKII and a 7D. I love both of the cameras and the 5D MKIII has most of the cool features from the 7D.

First things first . How much do you have tied up in Lenses for your D60 ? As lenses are going to make more of a difference than Cameras. Besides that from what you have mentioned they are all great units. But I would seriously consider if it makes sense to switch brands. But in the end it all comes down to what you are going to be most comfortable with. I just recently upgraded from a Canon T1i to a 60D and love it.

I just have the lens that came with the 60D I was looking at an L series lens but at the end of the day if I'm going to spend 1500.00 on a lens I was thinking about just getting a whole new set up I'm leaning towards the Nikon but just not to sure! I guess I'll have to go down there and play with both...

what you need to look at is what will you gain from getting a new cam vs spending that same amount on a new lens....purchasing a full frame cam and and using a subpar lens will almost promise you worse results then say picking up a 35mm 1.8 and a 17-55 2.8 cannon and shooting with your 60d

is there something your d60 does not do that you would like..its a pretty solidrig honestly

Keep in mind if you switch to Nikon, you should buy nice lenses too which will also cost a lot. The 60D is a great camera. Nothing wrong with it. Are you mainly wanting to take pictures of your work? What other kind of photography do you want to shoot? I'm in SoCal (Tustin), so if you are near by or doing work near by I can bring some lenses if you want to try out. I have 5 L lenses you can try.

and no offense but if your shooting a 60d with a kit lens and are not happy with it i am willing to bet the 5d or d800 will have more potential then you can use for awhile until you get more experience....what are you shooting? if its for use around the shop and cars etc i would pick up these two

then if in a year or so you find you have reached your bodies potential you already have good glass....this would be my choice

JImmy, if your camera has all the features you like, I'd take the advice here and upgrade your lenses. I broke my 16-85 and am using the 18-55 that came with the camera. What a let down. There is such a huge difference in the lenses.

Also if you get a 5D MKIII remember that EF-S lenses will not work with it. You will need EF lenses.

Your best bet is to go down to the camera store, explain to the salesperson your dilemma, and see if they even have one of each in stock to let you try it hands on.
What are your needs? Have you taken an interest to photography? What's your budget like?
To be honest Canon's video recording capability is much better than Nikon, while Nikon provides arguably better high ISO performance.
Nikon lenses, unfortunately, is more expensive. For an example, Nikon 24-70 "gold ring" lens lists for $1,899, while the Canon 24-70 "L" glass MSRP is $1,599.
I could list the pros and cons all day, but it comes down to your needs, and which camera "feels" better in your hands. I bought the D7000 Nikon over the 60D Canon because I felt the built quality was better with Nikon, but you may feel different. Call all the camera stores within your vicinity and see who has both cameras in stock and go from there.

That would be awesome... Not trying to come off irrogant or cocky by any means but money is not an issue I don't mind spending top dollar for something that will work. I'll pm you my info and just get back to me when you can...

If money is not an issue 1DX is supposed to be even better. Let me know. Weekends work best for me.

If your already shooting with a Canon I would stick with Canon switching to Nikon would just be a pain to get use to.

Your more likely going to gain by spending the money on lenses the 60d is pretty solid

Cannon vs Nikon is a agrument as feirce as the Ford vs CHevy. I am a Nikon Guy for 1 simple reason. The Nikon world service center is located 15 miles from me. If I have an issue, I can drop it off and get it fixed. I started SLR with a D80, Moved to a D300S and these are killer cameras. I would not benefit from a full frame camera like a 700 or 800 simply becasue it would make my lenes less far reaching and I shoot my kids sports most often. I have blown up my pictures to lifesize scale and the look insane. Full framers are for Weding Photogs IMHO.
Rent both for a few days and decide for yourself. At teh top end, your really spltting hairs although right at this moment Nikon is on top from what I read. POPPHOTO.com has a good forum for more detailed answers. D3S is tops right now, but I am not sure it is worth the money if you lan on shoting stopped cars. It mainly shines for Action photo's

I am an amateur photog having fun but not worthy of dispensing detailed advice, these guys are.http://www.popphoto.com/

I know a couple of guys that do print work using their old Canon 10D. They are just that comfortable with it, and they make a good living using it and won't change until it breaks. You have a decent camera body already, especially for shooting your work, automobiles, etc. I would invest in better glass and better technique.

As most people have stated, glass is the most important part. With lenses once you purchase them you can upgrade the body anytime something new comes out. Neither Canon nor Nikon upgrade lenses all the time. They both usually upgrade bodies regularly.

Personally I am a Canon guy. I currently have a 7D with a 24-105mm f/4 IS L and a 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II L (my favorite). These 2 lens perform excellent. I will be upgrading to the 5D Mark III in the next few months as I prefer to do portraiture.

We first need to figure out WHY you want to upgrade from a 60D to something else. Where do you feel the 60D is lacking? As most have said, the lenses make a huge difference. Try out a few "L" lenses and see if that's something you're comfortable with. Otherwise, just buy the 5D MkII or MkIII and still get the "L" glass.
