Having seen an episode of "How it's Made" on Discovery where they showed Firehose nozzles, I went on a quest to see if I could find one for use detailing. And...I have.

    Amazon link: here

It's made by Nelson, and it's called the "Adjustable Pattern Spray Nozzle." Part number 50503. This thing is well made - it's nice and weighty to the hand, made mostly (all? hard to say, since I can't see inside it) of metal. And...there's a huge, "basket handle" style shutoff valve, just like firemen get on theirs.

I haven't washed a car with it yet, but I've plugged it into the hose out front and fiddled around some. Neighbors must now think I'm a complete nutjob. The spray pattern goes from a "barely on" shower style pattern, to a sharply focused jet, with the turn of the nice, large, rubber coated end. Similar to the Bonaire that I had, but now, I don't have to twist to disengage it. This always annoyed me - the ones that "twist off" make you lose whatever spray pattern you were last using. Problem solved!

And this sucker shoots a LONG way. It's going to be great for the roofs of large trucks.

From the back of the package:

    - Heavy-duty, die-cast metal body with GRIPGUARD insulation
    - Up to 300% more water flow for superior cleaning power
    - Adjustable from gentle shower to powerful stream
    - Engineered from zinc, aluminum, glass-filled nylon, and brass
    - Protective rubber coating prevents scratching of surfaces when dropped
    - Metal shut-off handle

At only $20 on Amazon, this looks like a good find. Enjoy!

Nelson and Gilmour are pretty nice and available at HD and Lowes. Of course for really heavy duty use there is the D.O. Smith. Too bad it does not have a rubber sleeve.

This is the one I have from GRIOTS GARAGE. Awsome piece of equipment, although I wish it had the handle like the Nelson unit.

and I love it! I found them at Sams Club for just under $10.00, and ended up buying 4 of them, one for a friend, one for my dad, and two for me :)

It has a good spray pattern and the shut-off handle can be used with my thumb from the same hand holding the hose. The only down side (and this is being nitpicky) is that if I lay it down, and then pull it towards me later using the hose, the large spray pattern adjuster will roll and change the pattern setting, but this is a very minor quibble.

How does this compare to a pressure washer?

    It doesn't.

It just doesn't generate enough pressure to compare with even the most everyday Karcher electric. As hose nozzles go, it's tops...but it'll never match a pressure washer.

exactly. its very multi purpose. it has a perfect spray patterm for watering the plants/lawn and has decent pressure. unlike another firehose nozzle i got from walmart. horrible spray pattern
