I'm looking at getting some chrome headers for my car. Since the headers are hard to go to, I want some form of protection on them that will last a long time. Being headers, it needs to withstand extreme temps. Anyone know of a good product for this?

Not sure if any of the sealant can handle that kind of heat. Maybe Phil will chime in on this one.

That is what I assumed, but figured I would see if anything was out there.

Wouldn't it be better to go with ceramic coated headers for more performance? Is this a show car or garage queen?

Its daily driven, however price is a issue and the Chrome is cheaper. The car does participate in shows every year also.

If your gonna drive it, wrap them and be done with it.

What kind of car are the headers going on? Most likely, your just going to have to keep polishing them if you want to minimize the discoloration. Those headers will reach temperatures that no sealant will be able to protect. It will burn off quickly. Since it's a daily driver, why go through so much hassle to keep it that way? I personally like the discoloration look but like others said, ceramic would be the way to go. It seems as though you would get ceramic but price is an issue? If you can keep saving and be patient, I'm sure you'd be able to get the ceramic.

Like Holden said, heat wrap or Ceramic coating is the best way to go. If money is an issue, rather than buy ceramic coated already, simply coat them yourself with a high temps ceramic paint. You can pick this up at Autozone for about $10 a can. Normally, 2 cans will be MORE than enough. This is what I've done for numerous headers and exhaust bits.

You could try Blackfire Metal Sealant or Rejex. Both are supposed to be able to handle high heat. Don't know how hot though.
