Hey guys, I've been using einszett leather care and have LOVED it. I know I know, if it ain't broke why fix it? Well, I've been hearing great things about Race Glaze leather balm, Swissvax Leather milk and glaze, and the leather masters conditioners. I already use Leather masters rapid S cleaner for leather, and love how quick it makes cleaning dirty leather. I guess I'm looking for two things. I want a nice leather conditioner than is in the form of a milk or lotion that leaves an excellent matte finish and pleasant smell, and I also would like to have a spray leather conditioner to top off the seats every other week or so. I've seen Zaino leather soft, and I've also considered Griot's Leather Care spray, but I thought i'd get input from the fanatics here!
I used Autoglym Leather Care Cream for years with great success. The only downside to it is if you don't buff all the residue of, it will dry white. I am using Lexol on clients cars right now and do like it. I have two coats of Raceglaze Leatherbalm on my car seats right now as well. RG has a real leather smell. It dies down a bit over a few days but is quite strong when applied.
Iz einszett leather care is a water-based product (not oil-based like many) stick with WB type products (I'm going to include a 'Leather Care ' article in the Detailing School section that will provide more info
I'll have to look into this product as well as the LM kit. I have yet to meet a 1Z product I haven't liked!
In my research, most leather conditioners sold for automobile use seem to be mostly water based. Some have some oils but the basic product is water with the product in a lotion to ease spreading. That is, they do not seem to be the solvent oil based products used in the leather industry that is a definite no no on top coated leathers. I find "conditioner" is a term used to indicate a leather dressing and does not mean it is a conditioner in the original sense. You could rename some products leather protectants but I do not think the marketplace would accept the term readily so many makers continue to call it leather conditioner. It is the same rationale that ONR would not sell that well OTC since it is contrary to popular beliefs on soap, suds, and lots of water are best.
Actually I'm gona go against the flow here and tell you about my griots leather care experience. First off, dont get the spray, the leather care gel/paste works way better, trust me. get a set of their blow sponges, rub it on (dont need much, dime sized drop takes care of a whole panel (bottom of the seat, seatback, ect) then after you let it sit for fifteen minutes or so (make sure the seats are warm to the touch when you apply it!) and then buff it like you would a shoe with shoe polish, with a horsehair or boars hair brush, then go over it with a microfiber cloth. I love griots leather care, tried the zymol stuff and the griots does a way better job IMHO, plus it leaves the whole car smelling of leather. wonderful!
well should I get the spray for a week to week application? I like my seats to be supple and soft and they are a tad aged so they could use a lot of feeding. Have you tried the spray? So I'm thinking about either the swissvax leather milk or the Leather Master Vital conditioner and protectant creme. Then I'm considering the Griot's leather care spray or zaino leather soft for week to week application. Any input?
It's just a personal preference, but for me, for something as "oily" feeling as a lot of leather conditioners tend to be, I don't like a spray. I've come to prefer something about the consistency of hand lotion - seems easier to not get it all over the place. I've got some stuff by Malco that I use a lot. Big bottle of the stuff, wasn't expensive. Leaves a finish that isn't all sticky or shiny, just enough to know you did something. Smells good too. My favorite is the Einszett stuff. I used it at JL's place and one of these days, I'm getting some. It's great.
you can use the leather care every week if you want, i had awful fading on the top of my seats in the back from the sun and after about three applications over the course of a week it took care of it, i have tried the spray, and it didnt seem to do as good of a job, i really like the leather care gel/cream stuff (idk which to classify it as haha) and i highly reccomend that
I use 4 Star too. It does not fell greasy after use and has a delicate leather scent as opposed to the scent Optimum Protectant Plush which smells a bit stronger.
