    Hi all.
I need to remove fine scratches on my hood which is the result of rubbing a damp paper towel on bird poop.
I have already tried 3M swirl remover using my PC with a white pad but the scratches are still there only less noticeable,I think I need a more aggressive polish with no fillers.
Would Meg #83 be aggressive enough ?how about SSR2 or SSR2.5?
I would rather buy an OTC product if I could.
    So what would you recommend?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Ken.

Try using a more aggressive pad first, and try multiple passes. If that doesnt work then you'll need to get a more aggressive polish. 83 and SSR2 are fine choices.

Thank you both for your replies.
I'll be ordering an orange pad amongst other stuff.

Just be very careful with the side of the orange pads, they are very harsh. That is why I use wool for anything below a white ccs pad.

I agree with all that has been said here, but it sounds to me like as though those scratches aren't so minor. I would definetly step up the pad but as per worning given be carefull with it. Wool pads work great as well and I find them to be a bit more safe (that's just my opinion tough).

Have you ever tried Menzerna? It's a great product, I really enjoy using it my self but nothing wrong with #83.

    Hope this helps.

They are minor ,I can't feel them with my finger nails,it looks like as you and others said an agressive pad might take care of it but I don't have anything higher than white that's why I thought I could get a more aggresive OTC polish.

Have you ever ried Meg's pads? They work quite well and should be available localy just need to find a store that caries them.

I would recomend the Meg's Polishing pad, I use a rotary and I have yet to use a cutting foam pad with the rotary. Usually Polishing pads take care of all imperfections, if not one pass at least two passes.

the 3M SMR is quite mild. Is this the stuff that comes in a small black bottle and is available at Zellers? I don think that stuff will do much on the PC with a Polishing pad. IIRC The Megs pads have less cut that their Lake Country counter parts. I am going to be the only one that says this, but I would go with the M83. It actually isn't as aggressive as some may thing. When used on a polish pad you can get the finish LSP ready more of the time.

You right on about the Zellers 3M ,I also find it very mild with a lot of fillers so whatever it does to the scratches it will be temporary.
I'm thinking #83 too oppose to SSR2 if in fact they are the same in terms of aggressiveness.
Nika ,I have not tried either Menzerna, or Meg's pads yet but I have feeling I'll have to try them both soon:D

    M83 >> SSR2
I think its level of aggressiveness is similar to that of SSR2.5

Nica, do you like the megs over lc and if so which pads are you using. i just feel wool does a better job when it come to correction and you can get away with a lighter polish. i can polish with a wool not get swirl marks 90% of the time depending how bad the defect is.

White pad on a PC wont really do any correction. Id get the orange and maybe even the yellow pad. But if you are going to place an order, Id get Menzerna polishes.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you on that one. As many of you may know, I used to be a big Meguiar's Fanboy. As a result I know their recommended techniques quite well. For the PC they suggest that you use a W8006 pad, and M80 for most of your correction and M83 for your heavier correction. Just look how many people have great looking cars on MOL. The W8006 is milder than the Lake Country pad, and it can do some correction. I would say that there are a lot of cars out there that need a orange or yellow pad, but I see a lot of people using a pad that is far to aggressive for the job. If you are going to put in an order for sure order some orange or yellow pads, but if not, try M83 or if you want M02. M02 is a bit different to use than most other polishes on the market, Meguiar's officially calls it a cleaner instead of a polish. M02 is pretty good stuff, for your scratches I would do really really slow passes with moderate pressure on the first 10 passes, then just let up to the weight of the machine and pretty much hold it over the spot that you wish to repair moving it from side to side every so often.

I have used all of the above and with a pc the lc foam/wool with some sip works the best. But for just shits and giggles I will use megs #3 w/ a little #2 with a wool pad for old times sakes.

I guess I should have said very mild correction. But it also depends on the clear. Most of the time I will start out with the LC white pad on rotary and see what happens.

Menzerna blew me away from the first day I used it and still keeps on blowing me away how much correction I can do with a Polishing pad. As for the Meg's pads, you won't be disapointed. I'm very pleased with the Meg's pads.

No doubt about it Asphalt Rocket, wool is the best way to go. It's amazint what you can do with wool. I used Lake Country pads for quite some time and I don't mind Lake Country pads, they work fine and get the job done. When I purchaed the Meg's pads I was quite pleaed with them. It seems that Meg's pads compliment Menzerna. I've been getting away with the Polishing pad and my 85RD3.02 for all kinds of corrections, even on black colour vehicles. I also have Menzerna pads, they work good too but way different foam though. Dosen't even compare to Lake Country or Meg's pads...Menzerna pads are different, at first they are so stiff, the first time I used them I was very cautions letting the edges hit anything on the vehicle becuase it's so stiff when you start off but as you build up heat and Menzerna polish it seems to soften the pad....I know that for any pad as soon as you introduce a polish product it will abosorb it but the Menzerna pad won't absobe it, well it will but it takes a long time for the pad to absorbe the polish. I've done a sports car (more on the small side) with one Menzerna orange pad and the pad was still stiff when I was done  like I said totally different pads. I only have limited Menzerna pads so I use them on special ocasions...or on my own vehicles :D
