I asked phil, but he also said to ask here as well.
Is the nano sealant scratch resistant like Aquartz? what is the expected life of the product as well.

I'm also interested as I'm close to trying out a super sealant.

suppose to reduce swirls/marring from washing by 50%...

No sealant in world will protect you from stupidity. If you are careful when you wash your car, these products may help. If you are the type of person who washes with a dish rag, save your money. I have yet to see any evidence ( that wasn't supplied by a manufacturer ) that these products will in fact reduce wash induced marring.

^^^^. yeah cquartz did help slightly. But I foam my car, 2bm it and it has reduces the amount of marring, that is what Im really looking for on the STI since it has soft paint. Cquartz did make a difference, just a PITA to apply.

does anyone know the hardness level of the the nano sealant? The single step really appeals to me versus the Aquartz method, but I am impressed with it thus far from what I have heard.

I would say that Opti coat is more durable to marring, I can't put numbers to that claim. My hood is split between OC and other nano sealants, the OC has less marring..........

Does paint density (hardness) affect its scratch resistance?

Many coating products claim an obtained surface hardness of 9H or 3 Gpa+, but this has little if anything to do with scratch resistance. Scratch resistance can be related to higher cross-link density and elasticity of the polymer network.

So how can a dense (hard) clear coat be so easily scratched?

Force acts through a body that has a surface area; if the surface area is really small while maintaining an equal force, the pressure becomes astronomical and the object under pressure capable of penetrating the surface of an otherwise tough material.

That’s why a micro fine thread that is twice as fine as silk and a 100 times finer than a human hair, in an otherwise soft towel will scratch your paint. And the same reason a mosquito can penetrate a rhino hide with its proboscis (stinger).

This can best be summed up as: your car’s paint finish, though it may feel hard, is actually rather soft. Nearly everything else that comes in contact with it, though it may feel soft, is harder by comparison and will scratch it with enough pressure – sometimes just the slightest of pressure.

    Hi!

All nano sealants are scratch-resistant to an extent. Basically the mere slickness of the sealant itself will help reduce scratching and the little "nano monkeys" themselves are very hard. The life expectancy is anywhere from 6 months to over a year. Technically it could last forever if you only use water to clean it and it's not exposed to any harsh chemicals, but pulling that off with a DD would be a bit difficult :).

how would you compare it to Cquartz? that is the only product I have used I can compare it too.

Well I've never used CQuartz, so I really can't compare the two, but a lot of people are saying that Body Wrap is holding up much better than CQuartz!

I'm not sure how thickness helps; a coating will provide 2-4 µ (microns) a clear coat is approx 50-76µ and yet a micro fibre can cause scratches

But do not judge any coating by coating thickness or pencil hardness alone, as there are many other significant characteristics to consider. Be cognizant that whatever the hardness rating it only offers scratch resistance, which only helps to minimize the appearance of light scratches

Jesse is it necessary to use Deironizer Decontamination Gel prior to applying Body Wrap? Or can I just strip the existing protection then do 2 IPA wipe downs prior to applying Bodywrap?

    Hi Danny!

It's not absolutely necessary, but you would be surprised at how much iron contamination is in your paint, especially if it's never been decontaminated. If there are ferrous contaminants in the paint it will affect the bonding, but exactly how much I don't know. Better safe than sorry I say :).

Thanks Jesse, I was also going to ask another question you recently said that the 150ml bottle can do up to 15 vehicles if you use 10ml a vehicle. How is it that you are using so little of the product to cover then entire vehicle, about how many drops would you say to put on the cut microfiber piece per panel? When I applied Cquartz I used the entire 30 mls on my mustang, also when I applied Opti-coat V2 on a WRX I also almost used it up entirely on that one vehicle. I know your product is different than the other two; how do you stretch it out so much? I want to make sure I dont over apply it because I am trying to sell my mustang gt right now to get a different mustang. Even though I am selling it I want it to go protected to the new owner, but more importantly I want to have enough Body Wrap left for the new mustang I get, a 2011 ML 350, a Jeep Wrangler, a Scion TC, and if possible a Chevy Silverado. Do you think that is possible? One last question do you think these would work to apply Body Wrap, I still have a few left from Cquartz they are suede microfibers that are like 4" x 4" inches.

Not to thread jack - I just picked up some Aquarts Nano (40mL) from Phil. Anyone know how long the bottle can go on average sized cars (not SUVs)?

It's pricey, but might be a good selling point for clients if it really does reduce marring up to 50% compared to other sealants.

    Hi Danny!

Yes ours is very different than the other two, but you won't see that until you've started using it! You'll see that you can really stretch this product out and you should be able to do one panel with about 5-10 drops of sealant. Just apply it to a cotton makeup pad and dab it across the panel before you start to "rub it in" and you should be OK. You don't need much and over-application may lead to sweating in some cases, so you really do have to apply it thinly! I've never used CQuartz or Opti-Coat so I don't know what it's like applying them. When I say "up to 15 vehicles" don't hold me to that number because sometimes it will be more, sometimes less :)! It takes some practice to be able to spread it that thinly, but after a couple of applications you'll get the hang of it. One bottle should be enough for the cars that you've mentioned! I suppose you could try those suede applicators, but in all honesty makeup pads work the best! Let me know if you have any more Q's!

Also not to hijack this thread, but for the life of me, I couldn't use more than 15ML for the whole motor home, including windows. I realize that the paint is different on these vehicles, but still.

Thanks again Jesse, thats a great help I will apply it that way so its better to use the cotton make up pads rather than a piece of microfiber that is shown in your video. I am going to order Body Wrap, the Deironizer Decon Gel and a few other products from Phil. I am just waiting to see if he is going to have a labor day sale, but if he doesn't, I am going to get them either way. :) What is the curing time for Body Wrap after its been applied, before you can apply a second coat of it and when can you wash the vehicle again? Sorry for all the questions I promise I am going to place the order and not just wasting your time with all these questions.

What did you use to apply it cotton make up pads or a piece of a microfiber towel?

You're very welcome :)! I use cotton pads, MF pieces and sometimes even a piece of a sponge, but I think the popular way to apply is by cotton pad so that's why I suggest it. I would wait 24 hours for a second coat if you can, but if you don't have that long I would wait minimum one hour! Oh and don't let it get wet for at least 24 hours ;)! No worries about the questions buddy, that's why I'm here :)!
