My thoughts on some waxes

I get at least 1 pm a week asking my opion on waxes. There have been a few who wanted my opion on all thwaxes I have tried.
Im kinda lzay, so I dont feel like typing it all the time, so i figured I would post in a thread the waxes I have tried.

This is just waxes, not sealents. Also I just did the waxes I thought of off the top of my hand. I also plan on updating it as life goes on.

This thread is not intended to be an ego trip, these are my opions. They are not fact, just what I think. You may disagree, thats fine.

I do not belive I am a wax guru or anything, i am simply doing this becasue a few people have asked me to

    Waxes: my thoughts

Zymol Carbon: Ok wax, nothing special. Very similar to Pinncale sov., perhaps alittle more deapth. For the price it was very durable, nothing compared to the estate line, but all and all it was a good was 6/10

Zymol Titanium: I love this wax; it gives the paint a nice finish, is easy enough to work with and is inexpensive. It leaves the paint darker, looks great on light and dark, and in the world of nuba lasts a really long time. (I got 6-7 week on a car outside 24/7 in Calgary) 5.6-7/10

Zymol Concours- I bought this was for my dad’s jag. It has been on that and my Nissan Altima. Up until I bought vintage concours was used only for special details. The jag being one. I have since decided to offer it to customers. It leaves an incredible look, its dark, it’s clear (unmatched my anyway I have tired outside the Zymol line, perhaps swissvax can compete). It lasts a long time., In my option it is worth its price, if not more. Top marks 8/10

Zymol Ital- have not used yet, should have a chance coming up soon.

Zymol Vintage- This is hands down n the best wax I have used. I base this observation not on the price but on what I have seen from it. It looks great right of the bat, however it’s best guilty is that it ages well. It looks way better (if possible) a week later. It else looks amazing with 3-4 coats. It is one of the most durable waxes I have tried. I have never let a car sit long enough to end the life of vintage so I do not know the exact life of it. It’s not the easiest way to work with as it sweet (oils coming out that look like buffer trails) but once you learn how to work with it it’s an amazing wax…. It would be a 9/10

Poor boys Nattys- don’t buy it, it’s cheap both in price and guilty. It looks ok (on par with nxt), doesn’t last (I got 3 week). I have used it a few times but def. not in my top.3/10

Poorboys nattys blue- same as nattys, made the paint a little darker, but nothing special. It’s ok for a 20buck was but doesn’t compare to the higher end stuff 3/10

Poorboys nattys red- This was the best looking, lasted the longest (maybe a week longer) but still nothing special. Not worth the hassle of waiting a year for it. 3.5/10

Victoria wax Cruising- I always get this and collectors confused, so in this case I am referring to the brown wax. VW no longer sells it, so it’s hard to get. But to me it was the worst of the 3. It was for a car without a perfect finish, so it wasn’t bad, but not what I would expect from the VW line. 4.5/10

Victoria wax Collectors- This is the yellow stuff. It’s good, not as nice as the red. It doesn’t leave the paint as deep, doesn’t last as long (maybe a week less). Its slightly cheaper then concours. It’s also a great intpductory wax. I highly recommend this one as well as concours. 6.5/10

Victoria wax Concours- What a wax, this competes with the higher end waxes, it’s almost as nice in terms of looks and durability as zymol concours. Zymol has a slight edge, but this wax is a great introduction to the world of high end waxes. If you haven’t tried it I would say do so. It’s not expensive but looks great. 7/10
Pinnacle soverarn-This wax really disappointed me. I now use it for waxing my humidor. I know allot of people like it, but I really did not. I would get 2-3weeks, the paint look ok. Not nearly as dark or as clear as I would like for the price. It did not give the optical range of other waxes in its price range. Yeah it’s easy to work with, but to me it’s just not worth it. As far as I’m concerned it’s like a glaze, add some looks but its gone before you know it 4/10
Meguires 16- This wax was ok. I did not see what the fuss was about. I think it was a supply and demand thing. Once it became rare everyone wanted it. This wax added nothing to the look, yeah it lasted a long time but I’m not overly worried about durability. So this gets a 3.5/10

Meguires Gold Class- I am not going to bother writing about this, you can go to a local autopart store and try it for 20bucks. Plus most have tried it anyway

Meguires NXT- Same as Gold Class

Megs 26 (I think it’s the number, I’m talking about the yellow tech wax)- I really liked this wax. It stains trim, but it left the paint look great, beads well. I wax pleasantly surprised by this wax…ohh and it smells like banana…mmmm banana) 4.5/10

Mothers reflections- Same as gold class (this was one of the better otc, if you are planning on getting something from Canadian time or AutoZone this might be the ticket.)

Mothers Showtime- same as gold class

Luso Oro- Im very torn about this wax. It looks very similar to soveran, I don’t like sov., so the looks of this wax are only ok. What I do like is that its more durable then sov. So for a customer who love sov. I can use this and give them a little more then 3 weeks of durability. All and all I would rate this a little higher than sov. So instead of PS try this stuff. 4.5-5/10 (p.s, I did try it on a few other cars without the glaze)

These are the waxes I thought of off the top of my head. It does not included sealants, if you want more info on that let me know, however imp rob. Not the person for this

hope this is what people are looking for

    thanks for reading

I want to play along... Great write up Calgary :D

Zymol Royale- The most unimpressive wax I have ever used. Though I only used it on one car (and half the car at that, so please take this for what it is). Nice depth and wetness, but not very clear. Given the hype, the biggest let down I have ever expereinced. 1/10

Zymol Titanium- I disagree strongly with Calgary on this one. I have used it several times, and each time I was left wondering if this is what Zymol is all about. I did observe decent durability, as stated above, but felt that any improvement in looks came from the HD Cleanse. Topping with Titanium made no appericable difference on the paint, and I wouldn't call it wet or deep. 3/10

Zymol Vintage- I agree a lot with Calgary on this one. Whether or not it is worth the money, thats up to others to decide, but judging it objectively, it is a great wax. Nice depth and a very nice "shimmer", makes the car glow. Vintage, IMO, is hands down better then Royale, and probably the nicest wax I have experienced. Again my experience is limited, but from it, I would give Vintage a solid 9/10 as well. No idea on durablity though.

Zymol Concours- Great wax, easy to work with IMO. Not amazing, but very very good in terms of warmth and depth. Nice water beading (not great though) and limited durability...
    6/10

Pinnacle Souveran- Very warm looking wax (on par, if not better than Concours IMO), and probably my favorite wax to apply and remove. Its like working with butter. Great smell a great (if not slighly muted) look. Lack of durablity keeps it a 6/10

P21s- Nice, very clean looking wax. Looks great on light colors (and nice on dark as well). I would rate it slighly below Souveran, so its a 5.8/10

P21s 100 percent- Probably my favorite nuba (outside of Vintage) but right up there with it. Very wet and deep, with an amazing amount of sharpness and shimmer. I really cannot see how anybody would not fall in love with this wax. My only knock is that just isn't as smooth to apply and remove as Souveran or as fun as the Zymol hand waxes. It just feels sterile in comparison, until you observe the absolute glow this wax gives paint. In terms of looks, its up there with anything on the market, but it does loose to Vintage becaus of that sterile feel. That said, for the money, nothing IMO, is even close. 8.5/10

Megs #26- Not really a 'nuba, but a poly blend of resins and blended waxes, I think #26 provides amazing depth and shimmer, as well as decent durablity. It really is the best wax that Meguiar's offers, and it has a unquie "black ink" look. 6.5/10

Nattys Blue- Nice smelling and very wet. Looses its appearance quickly but great while its there. Can be difficult to remove in humid climates. 5/10

thanks for the write up todd.. this is proof that wax is a very personal thing. what i like is diffrent then what you like.

You have imspired me to get p21s 100%. I think I will order it on payday (assuming i remeber lol)

So where did you get your hands on royal? Ohh and do you have any you would be willing to trade, say for vintage?

Very nice write up Calgary. I just got a jar of Victoria's Concours and I cant wait to put it to use.

Todd, i'd have to agree with you about #26. People ask me my opinion about the best OTC wax they can get around here and i'll tell them #26. I think its the best wax Meg's has too.

pinnicle liquid souveran. love this wax leaves a nice warm glow to the paint. very easy on and off! one of my favorite liquid waxes .

pinnnicle sig series 2 paste wax. so far one of my favorite paste waxes. leaves a little more of a wet look then liquid souveran. easy to apply as well . i love this wax!!! as far as durability. these waxes give oprox 8 weeks protection. not that long but for me its ok i love to wax my truck so its ok .

My exact thoughts. Thanks for the write ups Calgary and Todd.

Calgary, you don't use any Swissvax's? I would love to hear some comparisons.

As I am sure everybody knows I am a BIG Zaino fan but occasionally will play with waxes. I used Liquid #26 for years before I found Zaino but always hated the smeary look I got when the sun was low in the sky and hit the side of my car. Maybe I needed to go over it with a QD or something but was amazed at the Zaino look in comparison and never looked back. I still have a gallon of #26 sitting on the shelf.

I have also used Souveran quite often. I liked the look a lot and thought it was very clear like Zaino. My big complaint with every wax I used (#26, Meddalion, Gold Class, F113 etc etc...) was they all left a cloudy look on black and Souveran didn't. It also didn't last very long. I did love how easy it is to use. Smelled great too.

I have also played with Zymol Concours and found it had a very nice clear look like Z2p and PS but was a "royal" pain in the butt to apply. Seemed to last longer than PS but I always went back to a sealant before it was totally gone so I cannot give any durability estimates. I also found it to have a little warmer look than PS. Not sure I would buy it, I would probably try Swissvax Concorso first. I tried getting a sample of Concorso to try first but was only able to get the old green version which I have only played around with a little bit and is very similar to Zymol Concours.

I also played around with Lusso Oro a little and think it is similar to PS but hate the smell which kinda ruins it for me. Haven't used it enough to really make a proper judgement yet.

Up until now I have tried just about every sealant on the market and some of the boutique and liquid waxes. I also tried EVERY OTC product back when I was a 26 user. I figured I should probably try some of the higher end paste waxes which for some reason I always discriminated against. I am finding them to be much nicer than I expected but don't expect them to replace my old stand by Zaino. That said an occasional change is nice and it is always good to be educated on "ALL" of my choices.

Great info guys. I have been thinking of trying out some different carnauba waxes in the spring, this info helps a lot. Looks like some Victoria wax Concours or p21s 100% may be heading my way soon.

Great info Todd and Calgary. I'll throw one in the mix.

S100-I can remember back in the day when this was the biggest rage in the detailing community. It seemed that every detailer was using it. Who wouldn't for $15 at your local Harley dealer.

It is by far one of the easiest waxes I have every used. Application is a breeze and the looks great . Only downside is durability. 3-4 weeks at best. I still have 2 jars :)

Its great for those that want to go "old school"... :woot:
