Well recently I have let the Range Rover become a normal mode of transport, with living in the country and the my building business the car was frequently up little lanes getting bush marks all over it. So it was resigned to work and family duty and was often frequenting the local car wash line (it’s a good friend of mine who is normally very careful and will do no more damage than a wind bush lol) when Linda got fed up of me not having time to clean it lol!! This and a wee bit of soft roading:thumb:. Then recently, I picked up 2 rather big scores to the primer on the passenger side door, so I decided enough is enough time for the bodywork to get put back to its former glory. The arches and wheels were only cleaned as I am going to paint the wheels so will do the arches when she is on stands. Total time is approx. 70 hours. Firstly, it was soaped using an OCC all-purpose cleaner mix and left to dwell for 5 mins. This was washed off and repeated. All awkward areas were also cleaned and rinsed off. Next I used OCC’s Ph. neutral super thick snowfoam and left to dwell for 10 mins before rinsing. This was repeated and washed using OCC’ wash mitts and Carnauba shampoo in a 2 bucket method. After, each panel was soaked with OCC tar remover and worked until the panel was tar free. Next was Iron X to remove any bonded iron contamination. Finally the whole body was clayed then re washed. Firstly all that could come off did come off this included lights grills trim etc etc this was all cleaned and protected then stored before being refitted. Here are some progress pics. For this I used Megs #105 on a Chemicals Guys blue pad, then stepped down to Megs#105 on a red chemical guys pad. Next I then used Menz 103 on a grey chemical guys pad to refine and sharpen the finish. An average of 4 hours was spent on each panel 8 Hours on the roof 6 hours on the bonnet. Finally the car was treated to a development sealant applied by DA and buffed off It was left for 24 hours then Chemical guys Ez-Crème glaze was applied again by AD and removed Final LSP was 2 coats of Valentine’s concourse wax with 24 hours between coats and awiped down with Chemical Guys V7Hybrid. Hope you like the finished results. Here are the after pics and as usual all C&C welcome. Many thanks, Rollo
WOW.... That is insane. I don't think I have seen ANYONE take apart body parts to clean what's underneath them.... major props.
if you did not know what you were looking at, some of the reflection shots they look like a picture was take of the actual items, not the panel. That is how crisp they look. Incredible work.
insane detail, im not sure i could even convince myself to remove lights and such to clean behind on my own car. question though, aren't those rear trim pieces usually plastic or some other material? did you have them painted in the past, did you polish the plastic trim?
your right the a-pillar and the c-pillar caps are plastic and not painted however they can be corrected if done carefully. If they did not come up I was going to paint them the same Java Black as the rest of the old girl but hey came up a treat I think.
Very interesting, mind sharing what your process was? these pieces get so worn and abused by the sun, this might be an interesting alternative to having to dress them so frequently. I wonder how the polished plastic with hold up to the sun.
use a finishing compound menz 103 even 85rd on a finishihing pad at a moderate speed. you will not remove scratches but it will brighten up did mine a few years ago and only started to look faded recently but then we dont get much sun. lots of rain but not much sun lol!! oh yea keep moving the polisher as i would say they would burn easily if using a rotary.
This may sound foolish and I mean it in all honesty but your correction shots gave me a minor erection (no homo), seriously nice detail!
