So the Flex was put to the final test today. Nothing tests a machine like wetsanding. For those of you who do not wetsand.... you dont know what you are missing! LOL. I hope these pics are ok. I had no stand for the light and no camera tripod! All pics were taken holding the light in one hand, the camera in the other. The last pics with the paint thickness gauge came out too dark and you could not read the disply so I brightened the display in photoshop.

Here is the side I am going to sand. Really it doesnt matter how bad the swirls are because they will come out in 15 seconds using 1500grit paper. The real challange is bringing back the shine.

    Wetsanded with 1500 Grit.......

I then hit it with Menzerna SIP and an Orange pad on speed 5. I was shocked to see the results. In one pass it was near perfect! Just as quick as the rotary but the ease of use only a Random Orbital can provide, There are some permenant chips everywhere (Small spots you can see.

Added one pass of 106ff on a black pad,

Half/half, The tape was thick so there is some flaws on the first inch of the clean area to the right,

So, how much damage did this do???? NONE, (Notice the reflection of the speed limit sign!)

    VERDICT

This machine is simply the best on the market. The price is high but it is worth it....... It is simply the best of both worlds.

The UDM is a great machine, the best random orbital out there IMO but it can't compare to a forced rotation/Random Orbital.

I agree on the price, I would seriously pay $400+ for this machine after trying it. One wetsand job on a classic cars pays up tp $1K so it pays for itself after half a use.

Well I have to say that I'm not surprised. After using one I had no doubt that it would be able to hold it's own against a tough job. Chris :applause: you put the Flex to the test and I really enjoyed it. The only down side I see is that I would absolutely :acry2: if something happened to my Flex. I don't think I could bear the thought of having to polish with my PC again.

One thing I did not mention is that most of the time you want to follow up the 1500 grit with 2000 or 2500 to make it easier to polish out. The Flex kicked that 1500 grits azz.

Very nice results there Chris :thumb:

You can really see the difference and the wet sanding was wicked.

Very nice, the gauge looks good too.

Thank you for sharing and I look forward on getting my Flex ;)

Ok question on ur gague. What's the Min-Max the thickness is supposed to read? And I hate you as well... now I have to think of a way to get my hands on one of those... probably keep a UDM handy as a back up.

bahhahaha :) Chris you are killing me by not being able to get one till Jan! At least my birthday is in January ;)

I think I might pass on that gauge ...but the flex is irresistible... I definitely need the hook up here!

If we look at the whole line

The UDM is a great machine, the best random orbital out there IMO but it can't compare to a forced rotation/Random Orbital.

chris seems to state that the forced rotaion is diffrent then the normal random orbital

I MIGHT get a 2610...I can't find many 2611's around. :) It is made in Germany...it has to be decent....or we shall see. I need a new tool to hold me over till Chris gets the Flex's

Zoran, I agree, My statement can not be true because I have not tried the other high end RO's out there.

I will re-sand the same area on the opposite side later today and hit it using the sasme combo on the UDM, that would be the only way to answer your question properly. My guess is it will take several passes, if being able to do it at all. Check back Saturday evening EST. I was actually going to do it right now (3am) but I parked the tractor in the garage and I am too lazy to move it LOL.

Well, I AM a UDM dealer but we are not comparing apples to apples. The Flex CAN damage and burn paint MUCH easier/quicker than the UDM. Customers who buy the PC7424 and UDM usually have safety as their first priority. I can attest the majority of pre-sale questions I get from these customers include "Can I burn my paint". The UDM and 7424 cater to these people. This is why I said you can't compare the two. I have sold many UDM's and had nothing but happy customers, I am sure in the hands of some of those customers the Flex would cause some damage (In a bad way).

I know :( I can't find any on the sheves though. I have gone to ever store in the city now, and the places that even know what I am talking about only have the 10. I am going to guess that it is all old stock. I think I just need to go down to SoCal and go on a power tool/ polish binge.

There are a whole bunch of them...just none with a R2611. I wanted the 11 because it is 4 amps versus 3.8 in the 10, but no luck. I guess getting a 10 would see what is more important, power or revs because it is going to be pretty close to the PC in terms of amps, but it will test to see if it is the high speed is what is giving the clarity. That was a horrific sentence, but I couldn't think of a better way to phrase it.

:) I am excited for the review!
