I just went to visit my brother in law, who wanted me to take a look at his 2000 Ford F250 Super Duty. He thought he could shine up his truck on his own, so he grabbed a Makita, wool, and 3M heavy duty rubbing compound, and gave it a whirl. He wants me to "fix it", since now it's "dull". I need practice with my rotary, and welcome a challenge, so I agreed. This is what I'm up against: I went last night to wash, clay, and tape it off. I'm jumping right into this today, starting at 1:00 pm, and working through sunday. I'll post up some pics of progress. Later this evening. Wish me luck. I'll need it!
Good Luck Bud! Great training exercise from what it looks like. By the end I want to see the sides of that truck reflect like mirrors!
Hopefully you won't need any luck but that sure is a big truck...Looking forward to more pictures...:thumb:
Hmmm... think I figured out my process. 1Z Pasta Intensiv with a drop of Menz PG on green CCS gave me this: I'm still going to follow up with 1Z High Gloss polish, so this isn't refined yet. There are some deep RIDS that I won't be able to remove without wetsanding, and he really only wanted to bring the shine back. He is not going for full correction at all. He just wants it better than before, and is only paying for a one step polish. I think the results are okay so far.
Okay so far? It looks pretty damn good to me dude. Would you say the Ford paint is soft or what? I gotta do my moms mobile soon. How'd the clay look after you did it? What's the next step, white pad or black?
Well, I'm really getting the finishing down! I was leaving mad holograms, and was getting REAL pissed. I took a break, came back and tried using less polish, and extending the amount of time I was working it at 600 rpm. These 1Z polishes don't like to be worked at over 1000 RPM's it seems. I can get by with like 1 pass at that speed, but then have to dial it back or the polish will flash. Next step will be the HGP/FF mix on a black pad. Since the guy only paid for one step, I don't wanna put a lot of extra time into it. I am just looking at it as a great learning experience. The clay was actually pretty clean. I did a "decontamination soak". I put a dilution of Optimum Power Clean in that hand pump sprayer, and sprayed down the surface. Let it soak for about 7 minutes. After that was rinsed off, I did an ONR wash. The paint was actually pretty clean after that. I can still use the clay again that's for sure. I used the riccardo blue, so it's kind of tough to see the contamination. As far as paint hardness, I don't have a lot of experience with different vehicles, but this particular one hasn't been difficult to work with. I wouldn't say it's a "hard" paint.
Dunno yet. I kinda want to use the Migliore Frutta. I'm not putting RBOE on it. My arms would fall off. But I may put 845 down first for a durability layer berfore the Migliore, since I have no idea the durability of Frutta.
The harbor freight closest to me (70 miles away) stopped carrying Collinite. Now I have to pay shipping when I get to the bottom of this bottle
