I was asked to wet sand and buff this Mustang. Please keep in mind this is a basic paint job but wanted to show the progress of a wet sanded vehicle, well most of. I did not take pictures of the vehicle wet sanded, just starting from after being compounded. I started with 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, and then 3000 grit by hand. The pictures are showing the difference in the compounding stage to the left front fender which is completed. The polishing process consisted of compounding with 3M compound, sip, 106ff, and 3M Ultrafina. I just wanted to show the difference in the two finish, from the beginning of compounding to the final polishing. I will continue to update as the polishing goes and the windows and trim are installed and also get all the specs on the car from Hermann of HorsepowerByHermann. This is my next project to do. This is Hermann's race car and more pictures to come with specs when I start on it.
Love those Mustangs!! Fox bodies were so bad ass. I want a 91-93 notchback with a little 302 with some mods. Cant wait to see it Dana!
This is what I've been waiting to see, a car taken from wet sanding to finishing polish. I like being able to see that after compounding your results look a lot like mine...a lot of swirling and holograms, makes me feel better! I look forward to seeing how this one ends up. Oh and gotta love those Fox Body Mustangs
That looks like a fun project. Your work looks great. I had a 5.0 in H.S. those cars are a lot of fun. John
I think i need to fly up too you instead of you coming down here LOL.But then again it's warm and sunny here then your place. The 3m ultrafina is a pad or a polish and how does that compare to the nano .I know how much you enjoy black also .And if you can't type i understand why after wet sanding one car with so many steps
So far so good. Looking forward to your updates. I'm very interested in the out come. My first car was a 68 fastback GT...:thumb:
I had an 88GT, ended up being a 10 inch tire race car with about 1100 HP. Thanks Heath. It's funny how you have to make them look real bad to make then look real good. Thanks denzil. Thanks Josh. Thanks P1et. I figured you would appreciate it JL. Compound/woool pad and buffing wet sand marks equals swirl and hologram city. I will get a picture of the engine for you so you can see what needs to go into your LX. It sure is, this is one of the few basic paint jobs I have wet sanded, I usually do custom jobs that start at 10k. Hermann asked for a favor and I needed a good challenge. Thanks for the compliment. Thanks Adam, the ultrafins is a 3M finishing polish. It isn't quite as good as 85rd but close. My fingers are all taped up to stop them from bleeding-lol. I am waiting on the plane ticket you promised me for Detail Fest. Thanks Buddy, cool first car. The bumpers and glass should be back on it by Tuesday.
If i have any money left over after buying everything you recommend and my wife makes sure you don't have a picture posted in the post office will see what i can do .
Hahaha, good one, they took the picture down. Seven years is up so they can not prosecute now, you are safe.
No, but that is a little scary. You need to clean up a little bit, maybe I will stay at blk45's house instead.
