What are you trying to find out? The sanding discs or the orbital sander?

that are very cool... I will get one in the near future....they compressor will be expensive, but it can sand panels fast and throw a foam pad on it and you have a DA.

they sanding discs remind me of a interface pad.

Have a look at the Airvantage Sander too. It has the 3/32 throw too. I think this is the one that I will pickup. Along with the Abralon 2000/4000 discs.

Excellent post here on the process.

I have the 5" Bulldog. I use it dry, its very effective in resurfacing. The only issue is the Mirka brand papers designed specifically for it only come in 2000 and 4000 grit. I'd like a 1500, and 2500, I get them from 3M. Some older paints are rock hard.

Save your dough and go with a Snap-On D/A with vacuum assist. Buy a 3m soft backing pad and you are there.

Believe it or not, the Snap-On is less expensive. Plus the truck comes to your house and will exchange it on the spot for any reason.

Thats a good write up, and also the reason I sold my Positest. I never noticed a huge drop in coating thickness. There is a use for it, Im not denying.

You should see customers faces when you give them a car back with little or no orange peel and less pitting. They cant believe you didn't paint the car. You have to charge for this though, its a huge investment of your time, skill, and effort. I won't go near a car with the Mirka for less than $100 per panel.

Thanks for the input guys! I will look these up!

Now OZ was telling me you need a HUGE airtank going to get this working.

    Whats your size?

They drain the CFPM. But you will almost never run them at full blast. I have a 30 gallon Craftsman form Sears for $300. Never had an issue. Just be sure to get an air dryer, oil, and a bunch of quick connects.

Look at the link I posted from DW above. Those guys said that the mirka rep told them to run the sander at half speed. Also look at the compressor they are using, its not really that big. I think on the 3M site they say to run the sander at 40psi when using the trizact system.

200 litre is best. I have 3 orbital sanders, 2 Bulldogs and a Rotex sander.

3M do 3000 grit sanding pads, with Mirka doing 2000 and 4000 grit!

    Kind Regards
    Paul.

I called the US Mirka Rep and he said the 32 throw is not available in the US.

He recommended the Airvantage or Dynabrade.

He pretty much stated that they are all the same and it comes down to preference.

He did also mention the 16 throw will not leave marks as the new abralon pads are fantastic.

However, I will still look for the 32 throw :)

I talked to the rep in Atlanta this am, at first he said they do not have a 3/32 throw in the US. I told him I will not go with a 3/16 throw so I will look at the airvantage. He called me back about an hour later and said they just got in approx 20 new models in to the country that have a 3/32 throw.

    It is called the MR-625.

He is working with a local supplier and they are trying to get me on by next week. I should know more on Monday. The retail price will be $5 higher then the MR-6. It should be in the $150-160 price range.

They are also coming out with new discs. The part # on those will be 9S-241-1500/2500. They are calling these the "soft" line, but they won't have as much cushion as the standard 8A-241-2000/4000.

Mirka is also coming out with a single polish called Polarshine T-10 or something like that. Also available are a lambswool and a black foam pads which would be used after the 4000 disc.

Go the MR625 on order from my local place. Since its so new, it might be 10 days before they get it in. :(

Price is $165 as the retail is $237.

A 10 pack of the new 2500 disc is about $40.

Whats the SMALLEST Air Compressor that would be usable with the Airsanders?
