    Hello,

This car was purchased by one of my best friends. He bought it use with 73K miles, purchased it for a very very good price. The trade off was that the paint was in need of a little help. Unfortunately, the front end was beyond help. I even wet sanded with some 3000 grit but bird shite and bugs were baked and etched into the paint. Very frustrating. The rest of the vehicle cleaned up quite well, although it both looked like it has been washed with a BURLAP SACK and of course, had the Texas pinstriping... The vehicle was a one-owner vehicle and had absolutely never been waxed. I have never felt drier paint in my life...

    1) Foam with Citrus Wash 'n Gloss
    2) Wash with Citrus Wash 'n Gloss
    3) Clay with Pinnacle Ultra Poly
    4) SIP on Flex
    5) PO85RD on Flex
    6) CG EZ Creme Glaze
    7) CG Jetseal 109
    8) P21S

    Enjoy...

Lovely, washing with a BURLAP SACK is normal...

Why wipe off bird shite when you can let it etch the paint?

I enjoy scraping my black paint against barbed wire.

That Rover looks like it was rode hard and put away wet, now it just looks super wet. Nice work and great turn around on that black paint!!!

Very nice turn around P1et :applause2:

That 50/50 picture looks great and I'm sure the owner appreciated the turn around on his vehicle.

I agree though, that Land Rover looked like it had gone through quite a bit.

Oh question, what did you think of the clear coat...hard, soft or medium? Just curious.

Thank you for sharing with us :peace:

50/50 shows the extent of the correction achieved, afters show the quality of the finishing!

    Excellent work there :)

Thanks!!! He was very pleased with the end results, but he might get the hood repainted. I even wet sanded a few spots with 3000 grit but without much improvement.

Thanks man, I appreciate that! I forgot how much I loved using P21S. Great wax, with a super wet look...

It was very frustrating. I was pounding that paint with SIP but that etching was too stubborn. Perhaps a yellow pad with Powergloss would have helped, but I don't have that.

    Thanks!

I'd say medium. The SIP did a fair bit of correction on the Flex with the orange pads. However, the humidity when we started the morning was at 91%, it dropped to 71% in the afternoon. And we know what that means: SIP was acting up! The gumming was apparant and I was about to throw a right fit. I really had to put an absolute minimum on my pads to make it work OK.

    Thanks!!!

Thanks Dave, much appreciated! And in regards to my earlier question about whether is was clear coat failure or bird etching, turned out to be bird etching...

dude trust me I work at our Land Rover dealer here in Greenville as a detailer.

all I have to say is about 99% of every discovery we see (and for that matter all other models) are as bad if not worse than that! Landy Owners simple buy, drive, sell. nothing added to that list!!!!

plus the way our goomba's wash our customer cars i'm sure we do alot of the swirling up on the cars....the bird etching oh i can show you worse my friend!

wonderful work! I'm gonna print this off and show the guys at work!

It sucks when it's left on there for YEARS in the baking Texas sun!!! The 3000 grit didn't even BUDGE it!!!

I don't know if that's a shame or not, hopefully they will keep them classy!!!

I would concur with you on that. When he was shopping for Discoverys, I saw quite a few of them and most of them were in awful shape. They have the money to buy them, trash them about a bit, then sell them before they hit 100K on the odometer. This one beat my arse, longest detail I've ever done!!!

This was actually the old school P21S! I love the stuff, very easy to apply and even easier to remove. Most say that it doesn't last long, but my findings show that I can get a good month out of it.

He was happy, but pissed that the stuff on the hood didn't come off. He might just have it resprayed...

Man that was really nasty! You did a great job correcting what you could.

That paint was begging for some M105/wool and a rotary.
