Hey all...so I"m doing a job on my wife's new Toyota. It's a really nice metalic white color. Well it looks like the tire dressing applied by the dealership produced some nasty sling on the lower trim panels. When I washed it, the black tar material came off, but a light brown stain was left. I've tried IPA, Zep citrus and even M105. The 105 took it off of the metal panels, but not the plastic. Any ideas?

yah i clayed the whole car and these stians wouldn't come out. they've gotten lighter with polishing but not perfect. i can't imagine the tire dressing etched that far into the clear. i used m105 with a PC and wool pad.

  5. Hmmm, I wasn't aware a pc could effectivelly spin a wool pad. Might wanna try a yellow or orange 4" pad :buffer:

Just keep working it and apply heavy pressure :muscle:

I don't think that's tire shine anymore. After claying and IPA and polishing, that can't be tire shine. I usually only need a QD/waterless wash and a microfiber toowel to remove tire shine sling with even my most durable tire dressing.

A solvent (Stonerâ„¢ Tarminator or New Vehicle Prep ) it simply emulsifies and dissolves the bituminous asphalt when you spray it directly to the surface, apply to the affected area, allow sufficient dwell time, and carefully wipe off, you may have to apply it three or four times allowing plenty of dwell time between applications. It can also dissolve a variety of oil and petroleum based products, it's safe to use on all types of paint, plastics, synthetic fibres, carpet and upholstery.

I remember reading somewhere that tire shine with certain oils can stain trim and require a repaint.

  9. Seems like I have encountered this before personally. I just can't remember how I resolved the issue :duh:

Careful with that blanket recommendation. I have seen even mild solvents(including Tarminator) stain the snot out of plastics and in a couple cases soften paint and plastic to the point where light finger pressure would leave an imprint. In both situations there was a regular brief dwell time and nothing out of the ordinary as far as application or environment.
