I sometimes think that towels with shorter naps work better for removing polish and buff smoother with less smearing,

    does anyone else agree?

I really like the Detailers Domain black towels. I also prefer the smaller 16x16 because they don't hang down and run the risk of touching the floor when removing polish from rocker panels and lower doors, bumpers, etc...

anyone else suggest other thin nap MF?

I would have to agree the shorter nap mf towels are better for removing compound and polish.

Agree as well, I find shorter-nap towels better for both polish removal and LSP buff off.

True, but as soon as you feel some resistance coming into play, it's time to turn to a fresh side or new mf.

Short nap for me. Best towels I have ever used are the Pakshak Silver Surfers for polish removal and Pakshak Ultra Fine ( 16x24 ) for LSP removal.

I'm also on the short nap program for removing polish and at least the initial pass on buffing out some waxes. Initially I was using the edgeless white towels from Parc Ferme (back when they were GlimmerGlass). I think the same towel is also available from Microfibertech. These are thinner/lighter and with even less nap than the PakShak Silver Surfers which I've partially switched to (need more). As several other people have noted you do end up using quite a few towels with either of these.

I use my longer nap towels for QDs, sealants and drying as well as the final pass on waxes..

to me, the thicker nap is harder to remove polishers like menzerna because it is smeary, and thicker nap just gets caught in the smeariness and is gets bunched up a lot

i recently removed some polish with a very high end fluffy MF had a couple swirls pop up, i think a shorter nap is the way to go, removing product in less wipes to avoid the change of re-marring paint.

Hey Phil whats your personal recommendation for the MF to use durring paint correction? something very paint friendly in a 16x16 short nap

    Thanks

I actually use some OTC towels I got from target for removing polish and buffing off wax. They are these very soft, very short nap, bright yellow towels with a soft edge. Target labels them as interior dusting towels, but I know better :p

They're not exactly cheap though at a pack of 2 for around $6. I want to find somewhere I can buy the same ones in bulk.

Nice to see you over here siked......Idk man the OTC thing is scary, i got some longer ones from orielly's that dont marr, but they lint like a mofo, i have some shorter interior ones, but i think they are to abbrasive i was wipeing off some polish once and WATCHED a swirl happen it was like clear, clear, scratch....damn it. target you say....hmm. 2 for 6 isnt bad really.

Trust me when I say, these towels are quality. No linting and just as soft as can be. All towels have the ability to mar the paint, as rubbing anything on the paint can scratch. It's all about how much pressure you use. Make sure you're folding the towel into quarters to better distribute the pressure from your fingers and fold flip to a fresh side as soon as you start to feel it grabbing because that means the fibers are getting clogged.

I would get you a picture of these towels, but I left them all in my Dad's Durango I was borrowing lol

Yea i always fold in 4s and all that good stuff, the ones that scratched my paint are extremely short nap, very thin, im gonna go to target or walmart later, see what i can stir up....

I've come to the conclusation that short nap MFs are better for everything.

I would use a waffle weave for everything if they werent so damn expensive, i have 2, a giant one and a 16x24, i use the big one for paint and the small on to help dry my chrome wheels after a blowdry.

OK this just in...lol. I just got back from walmart, i was perusing in their detailing section as i often do, i wanted to see what kind of Microfibers they had, if they were any good and such, and i made a find. They had a few that looked nice, very soft, but most were 5+ dollars for 1 towel but what i did find is that They have a 2 pack of 16x16 yellow MFs they have a medium/short nap plushy side and a very short, almost no nap polish side. AND GUESS WHAT like 3.78 for the 2, pretty damn cheap, i came home to test them out with a QD, VERY NICE for an otc MF no lint, no scratching, no marring, very absorbent and very soft to the touch, definitely good quality at a decent price. They are made in china, like alot of MFs these days, they are made by a company called MicroPlex i believe, go check it out, ill be picking up probably 5-10 more 2 packs, as far as QD towels go, this is a great deal and im pretty sure they would be ideal for removing polish/compound residue as the nap is thick enough to absorb but not super plushy

Best towels I've used and still use today are Prima's Monster Fluffy towels. I don't know if they still sell them or not, but they are my favorite for removing polish and LSP's. I have around 20 in rotation.
