Is the 4HP model sufficient for drying a car?

I plan to blot dry and follow up with this to remove the thin layer of water for a nearly touchless drying technique.

I don't feel comfortable throwing down over 3 bills on the dual-motor unit.

I would say yes. I use the Metro Vac N' Blo (4hp as well) and it's been sufficient. Though I've been considering getting a leaf blower and seeing how that would work.

I've never used it, but I suspect the heat is what makes it better than a leaf blower.

Like I've said, I'm not looking to move water with the Metro (that's what I'll be doing with towels), I'm looking to evaporate it.

    Thanks for the input Don.

It moves water very well chase. I have been using my 4hp model for over a year now with no problems. On an unprotected car it doesn't do well, but even drying with a towel is hard. I find it works best when you take the off the filter lid. The warm air it produces is a big plus imo.

He was talking about the dual motor unit, I just picked one up and it is fantastic!!!. which is more than the single motor unit in the link from CG.

I have tried using my 8 HP MB on one motor and it takes a bit longer and would give on paint without much LSP since water will tend to stick more. For cleaning wheels, the 8HP will do it under 10 seconds (wells, wheels, etc). The 4HP will take a little longer plus you put the nozzle closer (within 1 to 2 inches).

I would have bought the 8HP unit if I could go back and do it again. The 4 HP is nice, and pushes water pretty well but since I never use the Vac aspect of it I really wish I would have gone with a straight blower. Also, it's more effective than a leaf blower. The leaf blower IME moves most of the water off of the car, but leaves behind tiny beads since the stream of air isn't concentrated enough like it is from the Vac N Blo.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think the warm air is the key to the product - kinda like how hand dryers work at public bathrooms.

That's a huge thumbs up coming from you Bob; thanks for the input.

Good imagery; how close are you when you use it with both motors? Just so I get an idea.

Oh man; decisions, decisions. I wish it were as easy as buying a small bottle of product. I'll try and schedule a work meeting out in NJ so I can go demo both units at Phils place. :headbang:

I had the same dilemma, but I went for the 8HP...trust me...you get what you pay for.

when I hve one motor on, it's a decent blower....with both motors, it's something to write home about.

And always remember, you remember the quality of a product much longer than you remember what you paid for it. And the initial thrill of cheap price fades quickly, but lower quality lingers a long time.

Well said; now it has to pass the wifey test.

Dude, the wifey test would leave you with a 16 oz bottle of Turtle wax wash n wax car wash and a half used bottle of Nu Finish. with no budget or for that matter time left over to do anything but let it "air dry"

I have the dual Motor unit for some time now. I works better than my leaf blower as it is easier to control. If you dont have a good LSP it is still a PITA to dry with. Make sure you have the proper electrical service to run it. I need to have my garage outlet modified. Makes quick work of wheels, wells and cracks and grills.

When I apply LSP after a polish, it helps to have so the cracks can be blown down and no water leaks onto the paint.

One of the considerations between the the 4 and 8HP versions is that the 4HP draws 9.5 amps, while the 8HP draws between 18-19 amps. What are your electrical outlets rated that you will be using the unit on?

+1 for Metro Air Force Blaster 4hp. I blow most of the water off with the Metro and then towel dry the rest. Works great on protected paintwork, not useful on unprotected finishes. 8hp Master Blaster should be better but costs a lot more and needs 18 amps.

Even the 4hp model will put the best leaf blower to shame.
