Costco - Metro 4.0 Peak HP Portable Vac & Blower

I do not know much about these, But I assume this is a good deal......

anyone know how well the 4.0 hp works? likes and dislikes? is this a decent deal?

I need a new vac/blower..... and I was looking at the larger craftsman but I really do not want something that damn big. the lady that grooms our dog swears by these vacs for blow drying a dog LOL

    Karl -

I have the longer tank version of this; has the same motor, just a bigger tank and cloth filter bag inside it.
Its a great vacuum, never failed me, this unit here comes with a lot of attachments that I dont use, but you could..

The one I have is at Phil's store for $279.. Not sure if he has this model, but I bet he does too.

Costco is good because they will almost always take anything back you are dissatisfied with.

I found a better, longer plastic crevice tool that I use in place of these little short ones everyone thinks we need, and tried out a bigger, curved vacuum nozzle and it works great too. I found the bracket for it, so I can hang it vertically in the garage on the a wall,

These Metro's are quiet, and pretty bullet proof, have not ever heard of anyone having problems.. The company is in NY and the Customer Service people are all members of the family that built this company and have always been very helpful in answering questions, etc..

    Good luck with your search!

thanks. I think Ill pick one up and try it..... I like the variety of attachments that it has. Plus the tank size is appealing versus a shop vac... etc.

I have one. It is awesome and what a price lol. I paid well over $200 for mine. It's a great machine. The vacuum and blower are both powerful and it's a nice compact size too. Easy to move around. One thing I will add though is it would be a good idea to pick up a second 6' hose to use for the blower option.

Yeah, what I really want to do is mount this on my wall.......

what is the longest hose they make?

I think 6' is the biggest size for that model but I'm not sure on that. Should be another hose option out there that works too.

I have the smaller 4HP vac n blo. It is a nice little unit. It has great suction compared for my Ridgid portable. The downside is that if you use the paper filters they do fill up quickly and suction does drop off. The standard hose is only 6 ft and the power cord is a tad short as well so always need to use an extension cord. You can use the blow end without intake cap/bag/paper filter (leave the mesh filter in place) to get maximum blowing for crevices, etc. for drying, etc..

what is the diameter of the hose?

Are the paper filters easy to find?

The hose is a bit over 1-inch in diameter (too lazy to measure) - not as big as the one for the master blaster.. You can get the filters at many places that sell the Metro. It has a cloth filter that you must use. The paper filters are optional.

    Karl,

Dont know for sure if Phil offers the hoses separately but Metro does, and believe I saw the hoses at autopiadotcom..

You will love the smaller diameter, way more flexible hose too! Much more user-friendly than our old trusted shopvac's ,etc..
Less chance of scratching up things too with the hose on door sills, etc...

The circular brush attachment they give you is well, not my favorite, cause the bristles after a few years take a "set" and dont work as good.
I did find however, an awesome set of Triangular brushes at Home Depot that are made for this 1.5" hose I believe that is the size. The triangular brushes have better bristles, one is finer than the other, so you can use the fine one quickly to go over dashboards, vents, etc., and the harder bristle one for carpets if you want to go against the grain,to pull more stuff out..

The longer tank version that I have only has a nice cloth filter that traps about everything. I can tell it does because the foam filter behind it that is in front of the motor is never really dirty when I remove it to check it and clean it.

You are going to like it I think ! :)

    Interesting. It's very cheap too!

I'm more interested in buying this for it's blower feature than the vacuum. The master blaster is just way too expensive.

Since this unit has 4HP, does this have the same wind velocity as the master blaster with only 1 motor on? Also, since this is used as a vac n blow, will it be unsafe to use it to blow dry the car since it will have dust and dirt from vacuuming?

    Thanks

I use both the blower and vacuum features. Excellent suction, I've only used one attachment, but as others have said, it comes with several.
The blower is decent for small crevices, but if you're looking to dry an entire car, I'd find something else (i.e. big leaf blower) as the unit is relatively small and it takes FOREVER.

My biggest gripe regarding operation is the unit gets very warm/hot. Not a big deal unless your using it out in the heat and the canister is pressed up against your body. Very uncomfortable.

That's a great deal. Do you have to be a member to order online?

I have the Master Blaster and it has some serious power. I used my old Shopvac the other day and it had a weird smell. I think it may be going out soon

Yeah, that is my only issue is the fact it would take half the time a leaf blower would take. I went to sears and found a 21 gallon 6.5 HP vac with a 250 MPH detachable blower...... for 90.00. Honestly Im starting to lean towards that.........

Yes, you have to be a member or have a member buy it for you.

It won't have as much power as the master blaster but IMO it's awesome. It's safe to use to dry the car I'd just recommend picking up a separate hose. So you have one for vacuuming and one for drying. This will further prevent the possibility of any dust hitting the paint.
