I've been using this rotary for years (its actually Phil's, I got from him probably 4 years ago)

I used to have the 3M backing plate (grey) and I recently ripped it on accident so I ended up purchasing the CG white foam backing plate. I noticed that lately I've been polishing and it seems to pull or have a mind of its own. Ive had issues like this before where I just needed to prime the pad, but its so apparent now that I feel like its skipping in weird directions i might F up something on my next detail. I switched back to my 3M for 1 panel and it did teh same thing (but i didnt use this as clear evidence since it was ripped half way and glued back together)

Could it be something internal? If I am ready for a new polisher. What do you guys recommend? Thanks

I had the same problem with the CG evolve 4r backing plate when using firmer pads like the uber yellow or hydrotech cyan. I now have the 3M perfect it III backing plate I got from Phil for my makita but have yet to really use it to see if it makes a difference.

You're saying about 3M 09268 Finesse It right?
Yes that BP are super soft and need full attention and care every time you're pulling of your pads from the BP.
