Well I messed up... maybe. Could have went to a local is300 meet walking distance to my house. And although I don't have an is300, the guys said its cool.

Now I just want your opinion, these forum enthusiasts said that its fine for me to go, but being 17... should I chill with a crowd like this? I mean, I just don't feel like I should belong, but I wanna see what its like.

On a side note, I mentioned that I would detail there car and he told me if I came we could talk about it too, so I would have had some possible clients.

I just wanna hear your thoughts :bla2: I know a few people a year older than me on this forum did this, but they HAD cars, no, WHIPS. So, should I go to meetups just to chill and talk and possibly market myself? I just dont feel confident, as I look f***** young- I look younger than my age, which also causes stares from cops when I'm driving.

Sorry if this was a waste of a thread, Lol

I would go. Market yourself. Act confident, but not cocky. Some of these so-called enthusiasts can be dicks, while others will be cool.

If you start at this now, it could become a great opportunity for you.

Your probably right... I just don't have enough self confidence :( At the moment.

On the plus side, my car is coming soon, Silver 2001 IS300 only 105k, and owned by my cousin- she drove rarely. And shes cutting me a great deal as the car needs some maintenance and sensors fixed, and timing belt, and has some scrapes... Fixing everything then some wheels and I'm good to go :D

i second slanguage. Go there because you want to go there and see what it's like. Don't go there just to strictly promote your business.

Most people who are in car clubs (not all) like to take care of their vehicles and usually will put their cars in shows etc . . . . so with that said that is where you come in. Some people can be dicks for sure but you might have made a couple of friends from it. Worst thing that could happen is you walk away with the experience and decide to not go to another one of their meets in the future.

I agree. Go hang out and see what happens. I got invited to a Porsche meet a few months ago and just hung out. You'll find guys to hang with and guys that you click with.

I'd say you should attend. Car enthusiasts like to talk about their cars and might even get flattered if some random person came up to them and complimented their car. There can be a**holes at car meets but I don't think you'll find very many at an IS meet. I think the more expensive/exotic car meets you attend, the more likely the attendees will be jerks.

You guys dont think that me being 17 is a limiting factor to something like this?

There's no age requirement to appreciate something.

Go, and have a look around. Remember that a car enthusiast has much more of a discerning eye than the average punter does when wanting their car detailed.

When you deal with someone who actually takes the time out of their schedule to attend a meet, you can be sure they have plenty of time to go over their car with a comb when you detail it.

dood im 19 and have been going to car meets and shows since before i could drive. Go to as many as possible, you'll find MANY new friends that i guarantee will be lifelong friends.

Cars are one of the best ways to meet people, because your interested in the SAME thing.

No one will even care about your age, people like others staring at their cars, and owners enjoy talking about them.

I started my business when I was 17 (turned 18 in Feb). I was in your shoes. I got declined by many people but keep going. Now I've detailed cars such a 2010 GTR, 2005 Ferrari F430, and a 1995 911. I even have a very nice website. But like I said, I had the notion that I couldn't score any high end cars cause I'm young, not true. Just put yourself out there

you would be surprised how many young people are car enthusiast. There is no age requirement to like cars and be into cars.

I am invited to different meets from time to time, usually by past clients. I try to attend as long as my schedule allows it. Its even better if a client is there, gives you bragging right for why his car looks way better that a lot of others. Bring lots of business cards

Thats the thing, I am not prepared at all... No site yet, and definitely no business cards. I think those are the 2 things I seriously have to get out there if I'm serious, but regardless, Thursday night... well not the best timing.

Theres always next time, and then I'll be ready! Thanks for the suggestions :applause:

  19. Just go and don't even try to get business this time around. Find out when they will be meeting again and show back up. Your face will become familiar :hi:

Another thing, don't speak unless spoken to and listen with great intrest if you here someone telling a story about something. Also good to say something like, "Wow, I would've never thought of that" or "Man, that was such a great idea" :claping:

Car Club guys usually have tremendous egos. If you can help inflate there egos, they will see you as someone they would like to spend more time with/appreciate having you around :flirt:

    Regards,

You need a few references. How about you detail a few vehicles belonging to family or friends and show your work.

Only then, you'll be able to get nicer cars. Without references or photos showing the work you've done, I wouldn't hire you to detail my vehicles.
