This smaragd black c230 belongs to a friend of mine, and he just had some panels resprayed. The bodyshop decided to give him a bonus by compounding the whole car after the painting process is carried out. So my mate came to me and ask me to fix the swirl marks induced by the bodyshop’s cleaning process throughout the car. Due to some constraints (time and cost), he can only have a one step correction done to the car and it has to be done in one day. So my plan of attack was to utilize my go to one stepper which is the Scholl S17, and try to do the best I can in improving the Merc’s paint. Here is the list of the things used For cleaning I use Megs soft wash shampoo Megs APC+ with various dilutions Multiple brushes For paint correction (this one is an exterior only job) Scholl S17 Based on a discussion that I had some very kind members of the forum (Ken/911Fanatic, Porta, Tomas) these were the assortment of pads that I tried on the car Uber yellow LC CCS white LC CCS green LC CCS grey The machine I used was DeWalt 849 After some testing I decided that I’d approach the level of correction that we want using multiple passes of S17 on LC white as the pad gave a nice balance between cut and finishing , and this was supposed to be a “one step job”. Here are the pics, I try to give viewers as much information as possible from the pics, but I am terribly sorry that at the time this work was carried , I only had a Sony pocket digital camera and a 150 watts halogen that I held with my hands (no tripod) , so I tried using the flash of the camera to show some more description on how the paint look like. Without these people, I wouldn’t have been able to learn how to use them properly. In random order, these generous people are Ken / 911Fanatic (thanks for the late night PMs , mate, you’re the man!) Tomas and Porta for their replies to my questions posted on this forum and especially for Porta, for posting his work a white Lexus in which he used S17 for correction. And also for Carn , I learned a lot from your posts in which you use s17, for example the BMW335i post, an amazing one step correction done with only s17. I’d also like to thank other members who uses Scholl products from whose posts I have also learned from (FMINUS, JLs, etc) Jimmy and David from Indonesia, big thanks for sourcing the tools and products for me. Jimmy, Please don’t get bored with me knocking on your door late at nights and forcing you to talk about all things detailing til early morning Thank you for viewing this long post http://lh3.ggpht.com/_ZHKLu08C2QY/TUAlmWiZM7I/AAAAAAAAAUg/FMnjLpHLa8Y/s640/DSC02258.JPG
guys, initially i made a mistake by pasting the wrong link, and then i copied each image's url in the post, but it seem to only work when i post only one pic, when there are more than one, it seems to only show the links. anybody can help this nubie? thanks
I don't think there should be a space between the and your link. So, it should look like this: [IMG]link Give that a shot.
@P1et : Thank you, without the resources and people I met at this forum that wouldnt have been possible. this car was actually the first car where I did a one stepper with s17. Previously I had to always follow up any hits i did with s17 with further refining using s40 on light polishing / finishing pad. But, thanks to the admirable inputs from fellow forum members I am now able to achieve the correction posted in this post by only using s17. I realize it is by no means perfect, but for fellow members here using the same product, here is the technique i used, in the hot and humid tropical climate of Indonesia: 1. spread the product by a couple of passes at the lowest speed setting (on my dewalt its 1000 rpm) pay attention to the pressure and arm speed since you do not want to have the polish dry out on you too quickly. 2. work the polish at 1400 rpm, again paying close attention to the state of the s17's lubrication, monitor arm speed and pressure as needed as to avoid the polish drying before it is properly broken down. 3. when you see that the polish is lookin like its almost clear (doesnt take too long for this to happen), lower your RPM back to the lowest setting, reduce pressure, to finish down the paint. (if u're living in a climate like where i live, you might only get like 2 or 3 slow passes at this stage before it dries up). that's how I did it, any inputs or critique is always welcome ps: the car has Brabus Monoblock 3 in black edition, some Brabus badges and a grille, eibach springs, that's it, unfortunately the engine is still stock so far. But today, I'm meeting up with another friend of mine who has a fully Brabus Tuned 202 with Brabus kompressor engine, Monoblock 6 19 inchers, Brabus big brake kits, and a full Brabus interior treatment. Luckily, this guy is a detailing fan too. I'll post some pics of his car, if he uses the Brabus today. @Rfinkle2 and SoCalBrian : Thanks for viewing ,mateys @Steggs : always nice to meet fellow 202 fans
